Vic, I've never seen a yellow one although my friend Gary says they grow wild up around Nantahala lake.

Hi. Yes, yellow ladyslippers are pretty common up in Vermont, but not as common as the pink. I was told that the yellow is more suited to neutral, or at least less acid soil than the pink and showy ladyslippers...thus people without pine woods can grow them. Since we had alkaline or neutral soil, I bought some potted ones from a good nursery, and they lived, but a few years only, so I'm not convinced they're not much easier to establish than the others.

I have heard that the yellow Lady's slippers are much less fussy than the pinks. I planted some yellow and some pinks this last spring...hopefully, some of them will come up. I did amend the soil around the pink slippers with spaghnum moss, for the extra boost of acidity. Dodecatheon.
