A couple of weeks ago I stripped all the leaves from my 2 brugs that survived the trip to turkey. then I laid down in the heat of the day to read. my eyesight started getting blurry so I thought nothing of it and grabbed a pair of my husbands reading glasses/ I had lazer surgery about 6 years ago, and the DR said that usually when they correct the nearsightedness, the farsightedness will come. so i have been waiting for the need to use reading glasses. However, the glasses werent doing much for my sight. I then called my daughter in to my room, and was just mortified that I couldnt make out her face. I said, Oh my God, I am loosing my sight. I called my husband and told him he had to take me to the hospital right away because I was loosing my sight. So I jump into the shower and while stressing about this I remembered that I had been playing with the brugs, and I must have gotten some of the juice into my eyes....What a relief, and I am happy to say that my sight came back to normal within an hour or so. But i have been very careful since, and have been telling my friends with brugs to be sure they wash their hands.
One friend has a tree that is 2 stories high with a huge canopy and she sits under it, she often complains of headaches, would the brugs cause headaches? anyone know?
got a scare from brugs
Don't know bout the headaches but, Praise God your sight is back!!!
That is scary, Pebble. I know from here that brugs can cause dilated pupils biut I did not know it could make things so blurred!
When are you going to post a pic of this 2 story brug??? LOL
I'm glad everything is okay. Whew!! That would be scary.
when I've gotten the juice in my eye it dialated the pupils and made the vision blurry in that eye,but mine lasts about 24 hours ........
gosh Pebble! Glad it was "just" brug juice! About your friends headaches, sometimes when the pupils are dilated, you can get a headache from trying to focus on things. Maybe is she getting some "brug juice" into her eyes that could be dilating them also?
Wow that was a big scare. Glad everything turned out alright.
Thanks for letting me know this! I'd freak if all of a sudden I could barely see!
Thıs happend to someone a couple of years ago on thıs forum, ıf ı had not known thıs I would have really freaked.
Speaking proffessionally here (optometrist) I doubt it was Brug juice that caused the blurry vision. Was more likely an optical migrain (not headache type migrain) caused by stress and blood preasure/vascular surge....eaily brought on by long periods of bending over with ones head pointed downward.
I suppose it could have been Brug juice, but just sounds more vascular to me.
Marc, dont you agree tho, when one is dilated, due to the sphincter muscles not contracting that it could have caused blurred vision?
I have seen a few times on here that people accidently dilated one or both of their eyes after working with brugs.
Dilation can cause blurred vision yes....but rarely will it effect both distance and near vision, and certainly would last longer than an hour. (2 to 4 normally)
It could indeed have been a combo of the Brugs, the heat, and any number of things.
I would certainly try and keep Brug juice out of the eyes none the less.
lol I agree about the juice.
I (COMT) am just thinking that she didnt notice the blurred vision until she layed down to read, and maybe she was dilated for longer than that (because the dilation more often than not causes blurred near vision), and just didnt notice?
At any rate, Im glad everything is ok now.
I'm glad she recovered quickly too.
Whenever I have had the misfortune to get brug juice in my eyes the dilation lasts for nearly 24 hours. It usually happens in fall when whacking down large plant. Although I try to remember to wear glasses-I forget.
brugs do cause headaches..the people in south america call them borrachero trees because the continued sitting under a large blooming tree can cause headaches and dizziness like being drunk.
Gosh, maybe I better keep my nose out of them. LOL!
I get really bad sinus headaches when they bloom inside.
The same thing happened to my husband last year.... http://davesgarden.com/t/411874/ He, my DH, worked with the photocopier after and the Dr. said the chemicals from the Brugs plus the intense bright light caused the fixed dilation in his eye. He also thought the chemical in the Brug was similar to what optomologists used, in times past, to dilate their patient's eyes.
