Contagious Disease Alert

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

it doesn't take much lurking here to catch this disease.
of course i'm talking about the gottahave disease
just hope it NEVER gets as bad as Kell's case
she really needs help :-)

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I got news for ya, it hits fast. lol

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

And it hits hard. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It can hit the billfold pretty hard too when you start getting cuttings from people and have to buy soil, pots, fertilizers, and insecticides.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Sssh, Shirley don't tell him everything until we know he's fully irreversably addicted. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh shoot, me and my big mouth!! LOL! I hope we had him hooked before I inserted my foot.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

My DH is worried about me! :)

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

The only cure is to get another, then another and another. Never-ending! There is always another 2 or 3 or more that comes along and you just gotta have.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

My DH is really tired of me buying all this "dirt"! lol! (I go pots, as I'm zone 5b) Just ran out and will have to go get some MORE in about 2 weeks, for the next Isabella graduation. DH is going to shoot me!

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Amen, Brugie...it can get very expensive. Then what do you do with all those brugs? I dont have room to plant all of them, have given many away, still have 30 or so that need good, loving homes...and here I am, thinking about which ones I would like to have for next year...*sigh*

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Earthling, you've got it. LOL Isn't it amazing how we're searching for new ones.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kris, I don't think there is a cure for this addiction either. I thought I could get control, but everything just gets worse. I don't know how Kell does it. I have tons of room for them, but no energy to plant more. She doesn't even have the room and has to rent space to grow them, 45 minutes from her house....now that is a dedicated/addicted brug grower.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes, that Kell is amazing. Can't wait to see her babies in bloom.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I was this same way with daylilies the last 2 years.....I found out there is a cure for it! A NEW addiction !!! Now I changed my irrational need for more brugs instead of daylilies! So, you see my brug addiction has helped me control my daylily addiction!

And you all thought there was no solution! How about hosta, or EE or iris or daylilies! There is so much help out there for us...we just have to keep open to it!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

The worms, snails and slugs are trying to cure me of my newly found addiction, but I know once I see my first bloom besides my "old faithful" gold one, the craving is only going to grow. Unfortunately, my yard isn't. If I had my way, a lot of the grass would go to make room for more and more flowers of all kinds, but DH is addicted to grass. Oops, not that kind of grass. LOL

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

it is bad and i only have four of them. i baby them to no end.

i went out and bought some epsom salt for them as they are turning yellow. i love them though. cant wait till fall to get some more.

any unwanted babies are welcome my way as they have a home. i am trying seeds agian but they dont look like they are going to do anything.

you will be hooked as soon as you start with just the one. i am and now i think i have my mom hooked too. hehe

oh well all for a brug.

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

You take the pods off when the pod stem (peduncle) turns beigish and the pod softens. Usually about 4 months. If you haven't grown seeds from your own pods before it's a thrill whoever the parents are.

Ooooops!!! Sorry Dick!! My pal's name is Steve Trever, whew!! What ever it's fun to meet you, you can bet I'll, now, never forget your name. SherryLikeTheWine

Strever, wait till the trading bug hits ya! that can double or quadruple your collection in a short time. And its so much fun too.

Karrie, atleast you are only buying dirt! Explain to hubby its a much cheaper hobby. Some people collect cars, dolls, jewelry, you name it....where the items cost way much more. Plus this hobby of yours really brings you joy and satisfaction.

I'm a stay at home mom and have three kids under the age of 5. When I first started collecting houseplants, My hubby was not thrilled about me buying plants so I started trading. He was amazed at how my collection grew and thought I bought them all. One day he started to complain so I explained to him and even showed him some plants I traded for. I then began to quote prices of how much it would cost if I had mail ordered them and he was pretty surprised at how much I got for a mere $4-5 postage trade. He hasn't complained since. I now buy my potting soil in bulk. Our local nursery sells a compressed bag of 4 cubic feet of potting soil for $22 which lasts me a long time. Its definately a lot cheaper than buying the small bags of Miracle grow soil I used to buy.

Strever, Welcome to the Brug "Addiction" Forum!
Where in No. CA. are you moving to? I live in No. CA.
(way north) zone 7B. I have been bit by the Brug Bug too.
I better make my green hut bigger, cause these won't be able to stay outside.
