Does anyone know a source for tabebuia chrysotricha, Golden or Yellow trumpet tree? I have finally id'd this as the tree in my neighborhood that bursts into astounding yellow blooms every year, and I am lusting for one! Only online source I've found is Top Tropicals and they want $20 for an 8 inch seedling! I've read that the seeds will only germinate for a very short time after ripening and unfortunately the neighborhood tree is long over. I just can't wait another year! Help! Here is a pic of what I am looking for...
Yellow Trumpet Tree?
Actually I'm not sure if the one I want is the dwarf chrysotricha, or the full size Tabebuia caraiba. The latter has "grey-green" leaves, and after another examination of the neighbor's tree, its looking pretty grey-green to me, but I have no comparison. Hers is pretty tall for a "dwarf" too - about 15 feet, and she says the seeds grow into 4 foot trees in a year, so I'm leaning toward the caraiba. Wish my camera were working!
I've been looking at that one at Top Tropicals too, Liz, but also hesitated at the price. They do send healthy stuff though.
I was also wondering what the tree looks like with leaves, and wondering if the tree still looks scraggly when leafed-out. If you get your camera working, please post a picture of your neighbor's tree here!

Still don't have a pic but I drove past the tree and it's a bit scraggly right now - old seed pods dangling etc. A lot like an orchid tree after flowering. Not a bad shape though. And they have planted seedlings in three places in the front yard, so obviously they've had success with the seeds! I was able to get some soft wood cuttings from her this time! I dipped them in rooting hormone and am trying them in three diff. media - fingers crossed! They haven't wilted at all, and the weather has been overcast and humid - perfect for setting cuttings, so we may be in luck. I'll let you know if they take. The tree itself is so gorgeous when in bloom - far more than most of the pics online! It is literally so covered in brilliant yellow bloom that you can't see the branches at all. Just a solid mass of yellow. The woman said she actually has printed out info sheets on them to hand out b/c so many people stop and ask what it is! Can you believe?
