Whiskers Brug

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

These are the first blooms from a Whiskers cutting that Cat's Meow sent me last fall. As soon as the blooms finish I will plant it in a larger container. Donna

WW, I didn't realize until i read Monika's book that to get earlier bloom it is best to take cuttings in the fall or whenever from above the Y . Just never thought about it I guess, but of course that makes sense. Hope yours blooms soon. Donna

My whiskers leaves are much more serrated than this one.

Mary, you are right. I didn't even look at the leaves. Whiskers always has heavy serrations, even on the new leaves.

Great looking plant, Danna.

Maybe it isn't Whiskers, but that is what it was labeled and I don't know enough about the different varieties to know by looking at the foliage etc. what it might be. I don't think the blooms are going to change toa deeper color. This is the third day for two of the blooms and they are staying an ivory color, good substance and nice fragrance. If any of you know what it might be other than Whiskers let me know. Donna

They look like huge blooms. I'd be happy with it anyway.

Wasnt there a "white whiskers" talked about awhile ago? I will have to do a search on it. If I remember, Gretchen and someone else were talking about it.

If any of my brugs every bloom, I'll be ashamed to show the pictures. The leaves on all of them are either full of holes from slugs and snails, of completely stripped from something I have't seen.

I've never had anything bother any of my plants before, but whatever is stripping the leaves on the brugs is also getting to my cannas.

Sounds like caterpillars, they can strip leaves off, especially the tomato hornworms. Spray with something that will take care of caterpillars (that is unless you want to have the moths/butterflies that will result).

I use thuricide, it is a spray formulation of Bt, you probably can find it listed by other names. It does have to be resprayed after a rain, though.

Sylvia, something is eating the heck out of mine also. We have so many snails and slugs. I hate those things. LOL

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I understand Sylvia....I have so many leaves that look just awful. We've had hail, wind and rain, not to mention all those wonderful slugs, snails and cats! Ugh....I squish the cats when I find them, and drop the snails in a small container of gas! Yuck....does that sound like a horrible death? I've put DE around all my hostas and it has helped so much. I think I will try it around my brugs!

Just went out and sprayed everything, so much is eaten by bugs pluse while I was out they tried to eat me.
Mosquitos are just awful this year, I had so many on me at one time I started feeling weak.....LOL...had to hurry in the house.

I don't think its white whiskers either...leaves don't match.....

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

lol sorry Donna.. I was just thinking if you got it from Vi or Nathalyn, maybe that was it. PLEASE dont change the tag just because of that thread. I dont know the brugs well enough to make that call. I was just hoping that would help.
Oh geez, then I read you got it from David! Im so sorry to add to the confusion!
