re-potting sequence

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

My first Brug seeds have germinated and I have a question about the proper time to repot and appropriate pot sizes:

1. Whisker X La Amour and Enchanted X ? are 6" high and in 5" pots. At what point in time should they be re-potted ?

2. Eight others have recently emerged and are an inch or so in height and in 5" peat pots. One has 4 seedlings, the rest 1 seedling/5" pot.

I will probably have to keep them potted since they would no doubt freeze outside through the winter. Seeing the photos in the Brug forum it seems that many of the plants in colder areas are in at least 12" pots. This is a far cry from poppies, and looks like it could be habit forming too. Thank you CC for the seed and new direction. Robert

I find the bigger the pot the better the plant does. Though I do have flowering brugs in 3 gallon pots. I just must water daily and fertilize frequently.

I push mine up from a 6 cell pack size to a red plastic cup
(about 5 inches deep I guess) to a gallon can to a 5 gallon to a 15 gallon. And I would go bigger if I could!

I move them up as soon as their roots hit the bottom of the can and are kind of filling it out. When it is colder I move them up much slower and wait till they are more root bound.

Welcome here Robert. I can't wait to see your babies.

Hi and welcome to the brug forum Robert. Kell knows her stuff, so don't hesitate to take her advice. Hope to see pictures of your brug babies as they mature.

Thank you Kell & Brugie for the welcome. It looks as though I still have a few weeks till the larger of the plants will need larger pots. Think I will try one in front of the house next to a Ceonothus. It is a south facing side and protected from the weather. Photos are slow due to silver based photography. The digital bug still hasn't bit.

You will love digital when you switch. And wonder why you did not switch sooner. Within 1 minute I can take a picture and get it posted on Dave's. Not bad! Or send it across the country to my fmaily!
