Personal Hummingbird moment

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I was watering some of the pots and planters on our lower patio this evening when to my absolute surprise a hummer landed on my arm. He startled me which caused me to jump sending him airborne again. He hoovered a few feet away chattering at me for a few minutes before flying off.
I went back to watering and a few minutes later he was back. He landed again on my hose arm...this time I didn;t startle him and he just sat there for a bit looking at me.
I felt so intune with my garden at that moment. Obviously I have made a place he felt safe.
This was so amazing!
Hope it becomes a routine occurrence.

How charming. Sometimes when it is very warm, the hummers will fly through the spray when I am watering but none have landed.

are they not mystical little creatures?

They are indeed magical mystical beings. I just love them!
I have so many of them this year....finally. I have been planting various things for the past couple years hoping to start attracting them. This year seems to be the year.
They are spending just as much time in and among the plants, not just at the feeders.

I've never had one land on me... how marvelous that must be!

I have a reading nook on the deck outside my bedroom and a feeder there. The hummers now come to the feeder even when I'm reading, as long as I don't make any quick movements. I've had a male ruby-throat hover inches in front of me there.

They are such fearless little buggers. If I'm correct (hard to tell them all apart), this is the same one that has been hoovering near us for weeks as we work in the garden. He/she must just be getting more and more comfortable around humans.

Since we have hummers year round here, you get to know the ones that "own" your yard pretty well. They are very territorial and will try to run off about anything, no matter now large. They complain loud and long if the feeder is empty too. After a meal of gnats they want desert and the want it NOW! Now if they would only learn to spear hornworms.
