While mowing the grass

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I have a wild area that I have been letting over grow for a few months now. I decided today to go ahead and mow the tall stuff down now that many of the wildflowers have died.
I know I mowed over these little critters at least twice before I noticed the ground pulsing. I was afraid to look when I figured out what it was I had ran over!
Fortunately they were all intact and snug and warm. Momma will probably return tonight to feed them. I felt bad so I gave them a lot of hay that I buy for my pet rabbit to surround their now naked surroundings. Hopefully all will be well and momma won't have to go far for food.
Now I have a little bunny that has been eating at my plants. I just couldn't bring myself to harm these even though they will be eating my stuff in a few weeks.
There are four of them!
