I had to take four cuttings from it this winter because my cats were playing swat the plant, now I am waiting on the beautiful glass like blooms.

Hindu Hoya
What a nice hoya, how long did it take to get that big.. it will have gorgeous flowers..
WOW - Nice growing!!!
Nice one there.
Well cats like to play with ropes LOL.
Thanks Susan, I really love it.
Gourd it was a small cutting when I bought it three yrs ago.
Glad you like it Aloha.
Lol Panamon >^..^< meow
Your plant reminds me of one I had to send to the mainland...and, with all of them, I had to take it to Agricultural Inspection. It took me 4 trips thru inspection to get a clean bill of health! The inspectors pried open every leaf they could to see if there were mealies...and YUP...there were! I dipped it in alcohol, soapy water...nada. Finally I drenched it with Imidocloprid and when the mealies were dead I sloshed it around in soapy water to clean them out. What a nightmare!!! I can laugh about it now....
Sounds like a nightmare, do you still have the plant?
I will be looking for mealies and hope I don't find any.
I only have three plants that size. WOW
I guess if I stop cutting them they will get bigger. I think I finally figured out how to grow them. Many people were responsible for this.
My what a switch from Succulents. Just the opposite growing conditions. Hoya really need humidity, so weand DH built a tiny greenhouse for them. I do see some flower spurs starting, but then I can't remember which plant it was on. I did have one surprise, I found a very large 2" H. macgillivrayi almost ready to open it took about a week before it finally did. This is did get pictures for you all. I was so surprised. I really think this is their flowering time, and I'm sure whatever I have ready to open yhou will all have as well. Norma
Norma it didn't bloom last year and I can't figure out why but do hope it will this year.
I fell head over heals in love with these unusual looking plants, so I bought a hindu hoya that is varigated with yellow, red, and white leaves. Although it's still small I am hoping that it will be blooming size next year.
I saw one with green and white leaves that are very thick, I didn't buy it but I am thinking about going back to get it. Since it had no name tag I am not sure which one it is or even if it's a hoya. I am very new to growning the different types of hoyas and I'm just not sure.
If I do buy it I will post a photo here and hope someone can tell me which one it is.
I was wrong about how long I've had this plant, I've had it for two years instead of three. Here is what it looked like when I first bought it. http://plantsdatabase.com/showpicture/3470/
yep that's the good old EA basket of H. compacta. Got mine also about 2 years ago and is similar in size than yours now.
BTW please get that picture moved from H. carnosa to H. compacta.
At the time that this photo was posted this was the only forum for hoyas.
Windsurffer-- what conditions do you have it in? I didnt know I could put mine outside.
windsurffer, understand that. I actually added compacta to the PDB. Just make an error report on the carnosa page and ask them to move your picture over to the H. compacta page, Terry or Dave will gladly do it.

OH, art_in_the garden....if you can keep your temps above 50 deg. f., your hoyas will have such a ball outside...you can't imagine. I don't think direct sun would hurt them at your latitude. I have a VERY open greenhouse, but the minute I hang a plant outdoors from the open greenhouse. There is something about the open air, light and "sense of freedom" (maybe)...really gets them going....
Carnosas can take low temps at night...so can H. globulosa...GOFERIT!
:) hey thank you. I'm glad to have the confidence now to take them outside!
I also have mine hanging outside and it still may get down to to mid 40's at night. Only thing I noticed is that compacta and carnosa will not open flowers while it is still cold at night. Only one not faced by cold nights seems to be pubicalyx which blooms happily and is dripping nectar.
Some direct sunlight OK but not all day long for your compacta otherwise the leaves will get burned to a "crisp" :)

I have been told that H. carnosa is one of the most tolerant to cool temps and lack of light ...
By all means, put those puppies outside when you can! The love it! Even tho my greenhouse is open on both ends, when I move the plants outdoors to hang under a tree they take off like a rocket!!!
Wow I'm excited-- I'm going to go put it out right now. We definitely dont have ANY cool temps at night. We break down into the 60s if we're lucky. But I'll remember this information for the fall.
Would filtered sun be ok for my compacta? I have a little deck/atrium thingy covered in parts by clear plastic- so would it like it there?
If it is the green H. compacta, it will like filtered sun...but no direct sun except earlya.m./latep.m. If it is variegated, it will want less light. Have fun!
Art they won't take my full sun here so it's hanging next to my house where it gets some sun in the evening as the sun sets in the west. It is very humid here now so I don't have to water so much but I don't let it dry out.
I also have a variegated hoya hanging right beside it and it seems to be doing fine.
I do hope to get flowers from both of them this summer.
OK Guys I have one of these but its varigated I posted pics when I first got it in the fall of last yr. But the darn thing hasn't grown a bit!!! HOWEVER....I haven't been keeping it wet and it gets sunlight in the morning only and then its indirect. So I guess I'm killing the little guy huh?
Tina
here is the link to the pic last yr. http://davesgarden.com/t/416107/
Hey, I have one of these and not only does it not bloom ever, but It doesn't grow very fast. What am I doing wrong? Mere
Well I've moved mine to the patio table and water it every day so now we'll see if it grows
tina
The variegated ones are not supposed to like a lot of direct sun...but I hung my Krimson Queen (the carnosa cv.) where it got early morning sun and BINGO...blooms all over the place.
Go figger!
Harold,
it's the same plant.
It is sold in the trade as Hindu Rope, Indian Rope and also Krinkle Kurl.
I added the Indian Rope name to the PDB now:

My secret is to totally ignore it, water it sporatically and it grows like a weed and blooms early.
Does this make sense? I swear it works for me. :o)
Mine is beginning to show some new growth sitting out there so maybe..........
