A question...

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

I have a few beautiful blooms on my first year brugs. Coral Glow, Insignis Pink, Frosty Pink, Golfito, and Isabella are all lovely--but so much alike that If I didn't have name tags it would be hard to tell them apart.
Is this how most of you see it?

I don't know about Coral Glow, but I think the others are very close. You can add Insignis Coral to that list. I guess there are just little things that differentiate the cultivars... JMHO, Gretchen

They are all suaveolens hybrids.... and all look similar. You hear us kid around a lot about Frosty Pink look-a-likes. That's why. You'll also find a lot of versicolor - peachy look-a-likes.... and white suaveolens look-a-likes. Some are so similar you don't really need more then one.... unless you have the space to grow them all ;)

poppysue....what would you give as a basic list for a new collector...a variety of colors and types?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

You're in luck, picturelady :) I can't say that all the plants on this list are exact look-a-likes because many of them I have never seen ... it's just from looking at on-line photos. Some of them might look quite different in person .... but after looking at a zillion photos it's hard to tell one from the other. I'm sure a couple people might come along and speak up for any that don't deserve to be on this list.

Poppysue....
Looks like I am in luck so far....the only one I have from the pink list is Raffaella.

How about the pinks....Pink Beauty, Rosamond and Ecuador Pink? Are they very similar? I already have them.

And how about in the peach line? Which ones are similar...and in the yellow line?

I have CG, and Versic. Peach and Spring Peach. I don't want to add more of the same look. What would be some different ones to add, in the yellow, orange line?

I also have Candida Dbl white and Maya....any other whites that would be different?

I do like Marrakech, Creamsickle and Golden Lady....would any of them be like I already have?

Thank you for all your time in answering my many questions! I really appreciate it!

I thought I had versi peaches on there but I guess I never got that far. Off the top of my head... Versi Peach, Versi Orange, Spring Peach, Cuba, Island Girl, Dr D are some.... I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of.

Pink Beauty & Rosamond look similar (they're sisters from the same pod) .... but Ecuador pink is more of a versicolor. It looks different with blooms that hang straight down vertically.

Then of course, there are Charles Grimaldi/ Dr Suess look-a-likes ;-)

Poppysue,
These are very helpful lists. If you could find the time to make other lists of similar color brugs, it would reduce the yard clutter dramatically.
There are other factors to consider besides color, such as the fact that my Insignis Pink and Coral Glow are covered with blooms while Isabella and Golfito are just now putting on buds. Frosty pink has 1 flower at 4ft. while Insignis pk has 10 flowers at 3ft.
All of these factors are effected by multiple variables, so I guess it will take experience to see what works in a particular yard.
Or is it just in the genes?

I would have to take 4 of those off the pink list.Adora is huge, much larger flower than the others.Rosea, pink goes all the way up the inside of the corolla.Flamenco and Rafaella
are both much darker pinks than the Frosty crowd.
Then you could add Ms Anna, and probably many others,to that list.

Thanks Sue. I know it took you a good bit of time to make the list you posted. I'm sure it is appreciated. I sure had not heard of a few of the brugs you listed, so I'll be more aware when I'm thinking about trading.
