Does anyone know what color this is ??
I bought this at wal-mart & they don't
list any colors for them.
Tropical hibiscus
I have no idea what the name for it is, but it sure is pretty.
Put it in the ID forum. CrystalSpin will know.
monterey ! It looks close but
you have a red face on the end
of the stem & mine is yellow.
There is so many crosses today
you don't know what you are
buying,Carter has some nice
looking tropical's so I think
I will buy mine at Lowe's or
Home Depot from now on.
Does anyone know when it's the
best time to take cutting for
tropical or hardy hibiscus.
I want to start some from
cuttings & I know you can start
them after the flowers have
dropped or in the fall, but do
you have have keep them the
cutting in the refridgarator
in the crisper or can you
plant them in the fall in containers & hope they don't
grow to big before spring.
Spring here in Iowa is around
the 1st to the middle of may.
I have read some books on
cutting but some of you have
did this SO let me know "PLEASE"
Now is best time for cuttings. I trim my hardy ones, when they are 12" tall, cut back to 3", root the cutting. Then when hardy one has grown another 12" or so, trim again, then let grow the rest of the summer. This will make plant bushy and not so tall. Directions were on the plant label, about cutting them back.
I plant cuttings/root tone, in a pot, do not keep too wet, until rooted. They are usually blooming in the pots in the fall. Can send out as trades, or plant in the ground.
Rebel, that looks like the "no-name" hibiscus that I got from Home Depot, and it was suggested that perhaps it is the one named "Sundance."

on just a single cane
with wood,my hardys
that just came up have
several new canes but
I don't want to start
any from what I already
have.
I have the new Plum Crazy
& a few others I didn't
have that I would like
to try.(Can I do
this with new plants?)
