the pictures of the STAR PINECONES from STREVER on may 29 2004 are very interesting. i would like to purchase a couple of seeds to start my own experiment. i have never seen a norfolk pine propagated. please advise me on subject. thanx wartjax

they are different aren't they ?
of 3 trees in the immediate neighborhood mine is the only one with cones. & i noticed in the last cpl of weeks my tree has an additional smaller type cone on it now. i seem to remember reading at some time that they had 2 different sexes of cones, male & female. the big ones pict above must be the female because they have the seeds in them, when the seeds fall off the cone falls apart. i will try to get some picts tomorrow of the 2 different kind of cones & picts of the seeds that fall. i should also go a cpl blocks away & check more trees to see if there are other cones.

they are lower on the tree then the first
there is a better close up of this type in the database

after some investigation i find these are the male cones
i don't know how they get the pollen up to the female cones higher in the tree, it would make more since if the males were higher then the females & dropped their pollen down onto the female cones ???

here are some seed i just now went out & picked up off the ground around the tree. i have never had any babies pop up over the years these seed have been falling. but this is the first year i have had the 2nd type of cone show up
