I have a night job, and in south Florida its way too hot to be in the sun too much anyways. I do most of my gardening at night. The police driving by put the spot light on me once and a while. They see me with a shovel in my hand at 2 or 4 o'clock in the morning they think i'm burying a dead body or something. My question is how many other wierdos like me out there?
Midnight Gardening. (Psychologically Unstable?)
I'm here also, my neighbor doesn't know where the plants come from. One day there is nothing and the next a whole garden put in. I often change the landscape in the middle of the night. About midnight. Many flowers open at night at well, and close during the day. My Echinopsis cactus do that, they start to open their flowers about 9:00 and finish off at 5:00 the next afternoon. But we have fun, and we enjoy the garden no matter what time of the day. Norma
Darn you all make me cry. I try so hard to grow Hoya, and I live in Calif. I still don't have tropicals down right, and tried this past year and half to change my style of gardening, I have grown succulents, and bulbs, but not the true tropicals. I just a beginner. I going to check in more often to this forum to learn. Norma
LOL AA...I've had the same experience! When I was sixteen I was trying to grow gourds (not easy here) and I had been away for awhile. Arrived home at 3:00 am and I had to hop over the back fence to see how much they had grown. The local Boys in Blue turned down the back alley and stopped beside me, questioned me and then turned on the spot lights on top of the patrol car. I was so spooked by then he had to remind me to look at my plants.
You are not alone A.A... I'm a night person, too.
It's too hot to do much here in South Texas in the daytime except very early in the morning.
I love to be in the garden late at night because the
Angels Trumpets and Night Blooming Jasmine are really incredible in the evening sending off very nice fragrances.
I have a few water lilies that only bloom at night, too.
I have a spot light over my garden bench so I can see to pot things after dark, too.
Never had any police action though.lol
oh i would love to garden at night
when it's nice and cool outside
how do you stand the mosquitos?!!?
lol
if it werent for them, i would be out in the garden *ALL* night!
but with the west nile thing in our area, i'm not willing to risk getting eaten alive (and possibly very very sick!) just to enjoy a few hours of peaceful, sun free gardening
