Melissa, I am new to brugs also so I can't give you too much advise...but I would stake them, so that the stems will grow straight!
Someone with more experience will come along and help you further. They look good to me!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Melissa! They look good! Just keep watering them and fertilizing them. Even your beautiful GH likes them! :o) Now that its nice outside, Im sure they will take off for you. Theres just somthing about the sun, that no light can replace. Some grow faster than others, and some just grow slow. lol you should see all the different sizes I have.
What ones do you have there?? They look nice and green, and happy.

What a cool dog!

Hi Melissa!

They are looking good -- probably need a good dose of fert on a frequent basis. I think some people fertilize every time they water. As Shelly said, they come in all shapes, sizes and growth speeds. What cultivars do have? Mine are planted directly in the ground, so I don't have to fert. quite as often. Also, they are heavy drinkers in the hot, dry weather. Someone with more knowledge than I will come along and offer up some expert advice :) Gretchen

I think you have received the best advice anyone can give from everyone above. Keep up the good work. You will be rewarded one day with beautiful blooms.

Love your dog, ya don't see many Grayhounds !

Your dog looks like he has some advice of his own!

Shelly: Thank you! Grace was just trying to see what I was taking a picture of... I don't think she's too impressed by the plants...

The "puny one is Tropical Sunset and the Larger one is V. Orange. Back in the winter I asked for advice where to buy them, I had a few people offer some cuttings for postage, then my puter crashed, I lost all my emails, so I bought some from someplace that was recommended, but where? LOL

I also bought some seed crosses from Cala, but, they didn't germinate for me. I guess I'm Brug seed challenged! My daylily seeds and moonflower seeds did great, I've got morning glories everywhere... but not a single brug from seed. :-( I should have just given them to BS!

These have been growing since February. I would have thought they'd be much bigger by now?

Back2back: That is my baby... Edie Grace, we rescued her from a track in Birmingham Alabama.... I got her Mothers day 5 years ago. :-) She is the neatest dog I've ever had.

Gretchen: I've got a time release fert on them, I water with Miracle Grow and Maxicrop. Both are in pots where the water stays in the bottom all the time.

What is the best fertilizer for them? How fast do they normally grow, and how many years before they'll bloom?

Thanks Brugie. :-)

Thanks Moko, I like her pretty well too. :-)

PoppySue--she probably has a ton of advice for me, she talks to me all the time, I just can't always understand her! :-)

She was smiling at me earlier today. :-)

Melissa -- take the saucers out from underneath the pots. You want to have good drainage on any potted plant. You can get root rot from them sitting in water like that. If you want to use saucers for the "look", empty them after you've watered and the pot has drained. Also, you only want to flush the plant no more than once a week. If it flushes each time you water, you're washing the nutrients out of the soil and you'll have to fertilize more often. Hope this helps :) Gretchen

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

These are bottom water pots... I can't remove the saucers... I guess I'll have to buy new pots.

Thanks for your help Gretchen!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh Melissa, I'm sorry... everything I know about those pots though is negative. Someone here may have had good luck with them, but I'd just be careful. Maybe you could use them for something not quite as special as brugs :) Gretchen

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Oh Gretchen, don't worry, I've got tons of stuff I can put in them.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks....you let me off the hook too easily -- you're a nice person, Melissa!

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

awww, Thanks Gretchen.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

OK, here they are now, a month later... bushier, but not much taller. Do I cut off all the sides to make it tall like Gretchen's Photos?

I'm just feeling helpless with these things....

The container in the photo with the brug.... somone sent me seeds that were supposed to be Datura... They don't look anything like the wild Jimson leaves.... does anyone have a photo of a baby datura?

Melissa, I can't answer your questions on brugs (I am growing them for the first time this year and I have a bud. Big Time Happy Dance!!!) but the leaves and bud in front of the brug look like zinnias to me. LOL

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Melissa, I don't have a pic of a baby datura but the plant in the first pic does not look like datura. I'm not sure what it is, but I don't believe it is a dat! I looks healthy though!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I agree with NoH2O. You have zinnias in that first picture. Nice looking ones too.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I have some photos of baby datura...they are the ones in the white cups on the right...let me know if you need more photos...I planted them into one gallon containers now...

Thanks Picture lady.
The seeds didn't look like another set of Datura seeds I'd been given, but those seeds didn't germinate... these did! LOL

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

It's a green Zinnia. Maybe next year I'll get to try Datura!
