Microsoft updates problems

I tried to load the updates and security patches for my Windows ME on the PC. They loaded and installed and then immediately froze my system so that I had to reboot a dozen times before it would re open windows. Then it gave me the blue screen of death a dozen times when I tried to open anything from Word processing to net browsers. After 2 very frustrating days I used the system restore disk and started from scratch.

Now, should I try the updates again or ignore them?
