Beautiful pic, Gretchen. I like Dr. Suess.

Thanks Root...sending aroma signals to KC....... Hope you get them :) It really does have a heavenly scent. and its the only bloom on this plant LOL!, but I have 4 Frosties, one pale pink and one deep pink all blooming at the moment, so its pretty nice sittin on my porch tonight :) Gretchen
Wish I was there! Doc S is one of my Favs.it really puts out, just imagine the full flush, gosh sorry,I was dreaming back to last fall,LOL!
Well, I can certainly see why! She, or should I say He, is quite lovely!
Beautiful. Like all the rest ... great photos!
I totally agree re Dr S. JT sent me one with three buds which bloomed oh so nicely, despite the stress I put them through. Now, such a short time later, Dr S has more buds. No wonder Dr S is such a fav!! Who is responsible for Dr S and, who is the dam and sire??? That's doggy talk but I'm a doggy girl. I would like to thank the 'breeder', if that person is still around and on line. I would also like to know how old Dr S might be. Thanks!!!!!!! SLike
Thank you Waterloolily and Sherry! I don't have any idea Sherry, but someone will come along and answer that, I bet :)
I think Dr. Seuss was collected in the wild, originally named Hetty Krauss or something like that. Somebody will come along and correct me if I am wrong, but that sticks in my head.
Too funny, all this time i thought i had Dr Seuss, but after looking at that, i think i must have 2 Charles Gramaldi's.
Anybody have an extra dr seuss??
jen
I think you are right Mary.
its wonderful very good pictures..
Thank you all for your kind comments! I'm hoping it stays yellow. Guess time will tell...
What makes you think yours is not Dr. Seuss, Jen?
i have a dr. seuss also. growing and doing very well. can't wait to see it bloom. very pretty pictures
Gee, Dr. Suess has never done much for me. Though your picture is lovely Gretchen! I had mine bloom last summer and it was on the way out but next time I looked at it, it had grown into a tree shape so I held it over. I am now paying attention to it since it was looking tattered. I will give it this summer to impress then it is out!! My disdain may be because I have CG which has a deeper and richer color.
Thank you Werewolf!
Kell: I am crazy about this color of yellow -- its very delicate, and I was expecting it to be a deeper orangey-yellow, so I'm VERY happy with this one. Today the color is the same as my Lantana 'new gold', a deep sunshine yellow. All my brugs are suffering from wind damage. I think this has been the windiest Spring ever here!
Mary, its so much "oranger" than that. Its defiantely not yellow.
I've never compared the GC and DS side by side, but they are both similiar in color. More orange than yellow..need to hunt for a DS now
Mary you are right about the rename. I looked it up on BGI and found it..... http://www.brugmansias.org/galleryH.html

According to the ABADS page, horticultural practices can have quite an impact on the color of Dr. Seuss:

Here's another picture of mine, taken 5 minutes ago. Its very windblown and bedraggled, but you can see its still yellow, a golden yellow. I believe it is definitely a Dr. Seuss.
Thank you all for your comments! Gretchen
Sorry...it won't let me post my picture...
mary, thats what mine looks like.
My DS is a lovely yellow, without orange, even as it darkens...but it is a young brug...
Kaufmann, very lovely photo.
I love your bottoms up pic also Gretchen! Just noticed it.
This is mine from the last flush, I have two and each one is a little different but the conditions are different for each as well.
One is in Sun most of the day and the other is in shade most of the day.... That probably has a lot to do with the coloring. This one is in Sun and this was taken the evening it opened. How much sun does yours get Gretchen?
:o)
Dee
Those are beautiful, Dee. I have Jean Pasco too (three of them) and the leaf is quite different from Dr. Seuss.
Here's the ABADS link to various pictures of Jean Pasco. I thought it was more of an orange. Anyway, my Dr. Seuss plants are on either side of the front walk with a southwestern exposure. Full, hot sun almost all day long. Maybe its all the goodies I've been feeding :) Frosty is nearly red, rather than pink, so who knows LOL!
Edited to add the link :)
