We received over 3 inches of rain last night. Ughh, I just had received some Duckweed that I had bought. Put it in the pond yesturday right before the rain. It looked so nice, almost covered all the surface water.
The pond was almost full of water before the rain.
This morning the duckweed was all washed out of the pond.
My darling DH, was out there today, trying to pick up the duckweed off the ground, to put back in the pond. How sweet, didn't know he had the patience for that.
Torrential Rainfall & Duckweed
Awe, you konow he loves you now! I can't imagine trying to pick that stuff off the ground! Hope he got most of it back in the pond. :-)
Crimson: He got alot of it back in the pond. Looks like it is already multiplying. My fish love to eat it. The pond that it is in doesn't have any fish in it yet. The fish are in the bigger pond.
Debby,
I did the same thing with the floaters I got a the swap. I put them in several containers/ponds around the yard with no fish. As soon as I added some to the fish pond, they ate most of it,lol. I'm waiting now until it grows enough to cover the whole pond- then it should be "safe" to add it to the big pond.
We have one Koi, that we put out in the big pond this spring. He has already knocked over a waterlily. Luckily, just a portion of dirt came out along with all the gravel that was covering the top. Put more dirt in pot and gravel and a big rock to make it heavier. So far so good.
The goldfish leave them alone. Those koi, are inquisitive and get bored. Lol..
I just bought my first Koi last Thursday! He IS a curious little bugger! I just LOVE those whiskers. XoXoXo. He is only a few inches long- cost me all of $4.00. (pretty cheap for here)
I have him in my tank until he gets a little bigger. Imma put him in the small pond then bump him up later on. He is just too small to be with the goldies!
Hi Debbie,
I know what you mean. My Koi have been in my pond now for about 6 months. They have already grown to 12 inches, and REFUSE to let me grow Parriotts Feather. They uproot it, and when I put plant protectors on them, the just bite of the stems, or tip over the planters.
I have new water lillies that have just broke the surface of the water. 5 little pads....though the seem to enjoy swiming through them, they have left them alone (for now).
Hope I can grow something in the pond. I do have Water Hyacinth in, and they like to eat the roots, but it grows so fast, I think it will be fine. This is my first attempt at water gardening and fish keeping.....
Love this forum!
jtspeak: Koi will not eat Hornwort. I bought 6 bunches off of Bonnie's Plants off Ebay.
I love parrots feather, have some coming, will have to put it in the small pond with the duckweed.
Ted's koi is already about 14 inches long, by the end of summer, he will be lots bigger.
Crimson: Ted's koi was about the size of yours and about same price of $4.00 when he bought him. By end of summer yours will be a big boy, too. They grow fast outside.
Yay!! Imma go ahead and put him in my small pond- then bump him up. :D Probably tomorrow! I have named him "Pig". LOL!
*typoes!*
*Spelled TYPOES wrong!* LOL!!!
