Elephant Ears - Tricks of the Trade !

A good way to get more EE plants is to use the bulb section method. Clean the bulb and cut into one inch cubes like a potato. Each bulb fragment will start a new plant. I learned this at a hospital parking lot, the landscaper hit a elephant ear trunk with a lawnmower and each fragment started a new plant. You can actually get over a hundred plants from one good size trunk! I use this method on my rarer plants like Mac Albo. Does anyone know any other tricks or have a Mac Albo pic to share? Variegated Monstera will work too! I need some eye candy.

Yours is beautiful!

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

Where can I get one of those??? It's gorgeous!! A must have!!!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I love it too....but does the Mac Albo take sun or shade?

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yea, I just found out the same thing. I dug up part of the yard to make another bed and to put in a walkway. A xanthasoma got chopped up by the tiller. Now there are little xanthasomas all over the place. (I already had them all along the fence). That is okay though, I am sure I can find a place to move them to.

I've got to look up that Mac Albo in the Plants Database, 'cause it sure is pretty!

I ventured into variegated ee's just recently, when I purchased a teensy colocasia esculenta 'Yellow Splash.'

A month later, it is showing a little growth.

Someone told me that the yellow splash revert back to green when the get bigger. What a bummer. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Alot of these plants are so newly engineered no one knows alot about them. Eclipse, is that a "Okinawa Silver" CV?

Baby Albo.

Brinda: Takes "spotty sun/shade" mix. Its very difficult without burning the vurnable white part of the leaves. Not recommended for the novice ee collector. I've burned a few leaves when i got my first one. The good news is it will replace leaves quickly, giving you a chance to correct the problem.

Heres info from my "one stop answer shop":

Plant Leans: Needs more light.
Plant is brown: Needs more water, less sun.
Plant leaf is yellow: Too Much water.
Plant is missing: Tornado
House is missing: See "Plant is missing".

Monstera albo Variegata - Warning, your kid may not be going to college afterwards! ($$$)

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

It's actually Monstera deliciosa albovariegata. I have two (in one pot), one bought on eBay and one bought locally (a VERY lucky find). I think eBay is the best source, but they don't always come cheap. Having said that, I don't think I paid over $25 for either of mine (the local one was $20).

carter, that monstera is to die for!!! and you got it in houston, huh? I make the nursery rounds often and I have never seen anyone carry such a beautiful thing and although not cheap, a price I would gladly pay. You are lucky, indeed.

Interlachen, FL

Keep an eye on ebay for them, although there is certain to be stiff competition, assuming one is even available.
