Anybody Check Out the Canadian Tire hanging basket sale?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

We did! :D But at +2F it was chilly.....DON'T say it Liz! ;)
The baskets sold here for $8.99 and the crowd went crazy when the carts were pulled off the Semi.

My Canadian Tire has the most boring plants on earth plus the ordering must be done somewhere way east of here because the ads are just coming out now about gardening season starting. We start in February here with perennials and the annuals have been in for weeks. CT hasn't noticed that our climate is a bit different.

Rhonda I know it's across Saskatchewan so I thought they might be doing it across Canada. A greenhouse around Saskatoon supplies Saskatchewan with them. The trucks start dropping them off the night before and they keep coming all day. The manager says the store makes a pretty good profit off the one day sale.

In your zone Liz I thought they'd be using a B.C. nursery. The baskets didn't hold too many unusual plants but they are extremely healthy and large.

They probably do use a local nursery here but it's the timing that is off, way off.
Great picture Pam, swarms of people around plants always gets me motivated to buy more plants. LOL, mob mentality in action.

It is dangerous (mob mentality)...I picked up less this year but boy did you have to move fast for some plants. When this picture was taken there were already three semi loads so the crowd was more dispersed by then. The carts come off the truck fast and the workers run (usually with people running along beside pulling off their sought after favorite). No one brings children...too dangerous.

The local Lion's Club was there to make breakfast. The lady collecting the monies found it a bit chilly....

LOL, chilly?? She looks barely alive!

She perked up when we bought our breakfast. Had a good sense of humor and a sparkle in her eye but I think the arthritis was acting up a bit.

Awww on the poor breakfast lady. Kudos to her for hanging in there , arthritis and all !!! I didnt check out our Canadian Tire but Walmart sure neglects their poor plants. Most of them are as dry as bones and the staff are all standing around, whining about how busy they are !! LOL.........

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL April...I was just up at WalMart and handed a poor hibiscus to a staff person to water. The outside plants are really healthy there but the tropicals are being ignored now.

Waterville, KS

Our Walmart garden centre is tooo much!! The plants are drying up and frying outside. I pointed this out to a staff member and she said "we have been just to busy to water them" There were 4 of them just standing around the cash !! LOL..........then she announced that she was going on her break !!!! I suggested to her that they were going to lose their whole crop but off she went.......on her break !! The plants were all yelling.........."Get ME a drink while yer at it !!!"

Seeing greenhouses like that always bothers me. :(

fort erie, ON(Zone 6a)

the same here in fort erie sad when you pay your people pennys and want a good job done .my brother worked there garden centre last year the plants were nice this year is really bad the same as yours AprilHillside standing around plants were dry... what a waste someone should send a letter or maybe walmart should let the proper business handle the plants insted of cutting the small man down! just think how many more people would love gardening if they had to go to garden centres! they would see real plants a nd have real help I"m sure there would be way better gardens than there is at least on my street!! everyone has there own tastes but why spend hundred at walmart for plants that are only going to last a month until the neglect catches up with them when you can have a summer of enjoyment if you shop at the right place ,sorry for the ramblins ,shawn
