My second year on the pond. Bought two last year and three this year. They end up dead in a few weeks. water lily's doing great. Marginal plants do alright. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong. Pond is 4500 gals with a water fall, Bio filter and plant filter pond 8x10.

Hmmmm.... are your fish trimming the roots too much? I have read that, though WH's float around- they preferr being anchored in the pond. Mine do better this way. Hmm... getting enough sun?

Full sun, free floating, No fish. Will try anchoring them. What do you use? Thanks

Just moved two of them. One to the bio pond and the other to the stock tank bio filter. Had to make a hole in the lava rock for it. Noticed they were brown and soft on the top side of the bulb part and firm under neath. The root system is black.

Hmmmmm...
Did you check them for parasites?
Look for aphids. They LOVE soft plants.
I anchored most of mine to a rock. They float, they just dont float around.
Mine are in full sun and doing great. Hmmm. I am not sure what to tell ya. Try removing all the nasty rotting leaves.Oh yah- maybe the waterfall is disturbing them too much? Try calmer waters.

Bought a PH test kit today and measured the pond. Was 9.0, so I figure that is the cause. Will have to stop using the well water as it has sulpher gas. My only KOI was dead this morning. So much for a newbie and pond care. Will start measuring it until it get where it should be. Will add some viniger and only add city water to bring up the water level. What you think will that do it. Any suggestions.

Measured my tap water and it is 7.0 and then the well water and it is over 9.0
Added today, four tablespoons of mertic acid and will add some more tomorrow. Then will start using tap water until it is all stablized.

My city water has a very high pH and is very soft. I don't even know how the city can get it to stay that way! Anyway, I bring my fish in for the winter and I always use a good dose of SeaChem's Neutral Regulator in the spring when I open the pond. The fish have always done really well for me, and the water hyacinth almost takes over the surface of the pond. Good luck getting a stable pH!
