Everytime Whiskers blooms I think of Gloria Lessner-such a generous brug grower. She was responsible for my addiction to brugs today. I ask her if she had a few cutting to spare and she send me a box full of different brugs. A fine lady, who is no longer with us, and great hybridizer. We have Whiskers to remember her.
This is one of my best yellows-thank you Gloria
I just got a whiskers, can you make you photo bigger? It's lovely.
MG99: Did you click on the pic? That makes it show up bigger.
That is a beautiful brug and has had many offspring.
Will certainly will remember her, she was quite a "lady". Very generous.
Barbara,
I was thinking about her today. (i seem to do that often).
Touring the yard, its almost as if she lived here at one time.
An umbrella tree, iris, tibouchina, ruellias, lilies, gingers, abutilons, gosh, its almost like what didnt she give me.
And then of course there are the brugs, whiskers, becca lynn, jesse noel, double white, ep, u conn, cypress gardens....
I can only hope that i can turn into the lady that she is remembered as and hope to be as generous as her with my brugs as she was.
I'll never forget the first time i met her. I was wanting cuttings and she was going to send them to me. When i gave her my addy she emailed back and said why dont i just bring them to you. The next day here she came through the parking lot of work hauling this HUGE box of rooted cuttings.
I count myself as one of the few fortunate ones that lived near her. She had such an amazing way of looking at life and i think knowing her helped me in my handling of my 2 cancer diagnosis.

Gloria was a kind and generous lady. She is greatly missed.
I was also a recipient of many cuttings from Glory. Being a newcomer, I was surprised at her generosity and patience with my questions. We really lost a kind lady who did her best to share what she had and not just showed off her prizes and left the rest of us wanting....
Bward, that is a great photo and lovely brug. such nice long tendrils. Donna
Great brug, great picture and a great lady. Thanks Barb, for writing your post.
Just yesterday I was looking at my Jesse Noel which I think is the best yellow there is......... and thought about how unfair that Gloria is gone.
My Jesse Noel is sick and usually I would toss a sick brug but not this one! I was deleting emails the other day from less than a year ago and came across the one where she told me her path report came back as cancer. She was such a good person. Just so sweet and so good. She really was. And I came across during the same time period all the ones from my sister about my Dad's cancer. Time flies by. Soon it will be our time.
kell, let me know if jessie noel needs to be replaced. mine is still small (just coming up from the ground) but if you need a replacement, just let me know.

Oh thanks Jen. That is so nice of you! It has some sort of fungus from what Susie and Monika can see. It is so special to me. It reminds me to enjoy my every day and to be kind. I have sprayed it several times now and dosed it with that new Bayer rose 3 in one systemic. So lets hope.
I was going through a seed box,and found a note Glory wrote me,I stll get tears every time I think of her,she was so kind,I miss her,and wish I had known her better.
I love reading stories about Gloria.
I think Gloria touched all of us at one time or another. This time of year is especially hard because she loved spring. I cannot wait for the time when we can think of her and smile about happy things instead of this deep sadness.
I love the shape of Whiskers. Roz, I do laugh to myself at times when I think about some of the things she would say and do. Other days, I wish I could call her. Neverthess, even with the sadness, I am glad I had the experience of being a friend and sharing the good times along with the bad ones.
Glory will be among us in her brugs. Kell, I hope, your Jesse Noel will recover. She is a beautiful brug. I have added Becca Lynn to my alley and she will remember me all times of Glory.
I did not get a chance to know Gloria, but I "know" her from the threads here, and no doubt the brugs I grow, as she passed many on to the people who have in turn sent them to me. In my eyes Gloria will forever live on in the brugs she so generously shared.
Beautiful picture Barb.
That one didn't happen to be a Culebra cross, did it? Very pretty and that long calyx reminds me of Culebra or an Arborea. Not the slits in it, just the length. Great name for it too.
side note: Whiskers is a Harding hybrid, not Lessner. Gloria did make a lot of crosses with Whiskers though.
Trish, i love how dainty that is!!
Jen
That is true, Miss Munché. I always forget that Gloria got the seed from Vicki and grew it out for her. Gloria picked the name also didn't she?
I alway connect you, Miss Munché with Gloria in my mind for as we have discussed, she emailed us both saying I reminded her of you! Then months later I met you and we sure can have a good laugh together! Your Gloria Lessner is just gorgeous and so different. I hope lots of us get to grow her in our gardens!
That is a very sweet and thoughtful thing for you to name your brug after Gloria. I told Ron and he and Deidre, Gloria and Ron's daughter was so very pleased. Gloria told me that Whiskers was Vicki's, and it remained probably her favorite brug.
Yes Whiskers is my favorite yellow too. It is a incredible grower and bloomer.
Thank you Vicky for the cross, I am sorry for the mistake. For some reason, I always associate it with Gloria. So sorry, Vicky. You both did a great job.
