Are yours?
cannas are starting to bloom
Not even in the ground yet here!!! That is great looking!
SIGH....NOT YET....
Oh, Clare, lovely!
Beautiful you guys. Mine are only about 1 to 6 inches tall right now.
Now that is cool
Rylaff,
The canna and flowers are very small, but it is pretty, and it produces seeds very well. Do you still have your white Butterfly Ginger seeds? Is it fragrant?

Clare, I would be very interested in trading with you. The butterfly ginger seeds need to be fresh when planted. I am sure I will have some a little later on in the season.
Mine have been blooming for a few months now. I have red and orange/yellow. Would anyone like to trade for a solid yellow??
fla2327, I just sent you an email. We can do a SASE if you want some of my solid yellow seeds.
Neat!
Mine are blooming really early this year.
Some are under a foot tall and blooms.
Alice
Mine are in the ground came up twice with geen shoots. We are having so much rain they are rotting in the ground.
Mine are up about 8 inches; it will be a long while before they bloom.
Thanks for the lovely, encouraging pictures.
Cannas bloom year round here. I have Princess Di, Valentine, dwarf yellow, dwarf pink(forgot their names), Australia and Pretoria blooming now and Tropicanna should be blooming soon. We do get some leaf rollers, I haven't sprayed yet because we have lots of lady bugs in the flowerbeds.
I have some in part shade and some in full sun, they seem to do equally well in both here.
Does it weaken the cannas to let them go to seed? It doesn't seem to slow them down, but will it hurt them in the long run?
Great pictures, Rylaff! What a beautiful canna bed:-)
Calalily, Rylaff probably knows better than I do, but the flowering stem goes to seed after it flowers, then the whole stem dies, right? And new shoots come up from the base and then flower, go to seed, etc. I don't see how the seed production can weaken the canna since the stalk is finished anyway, but perhaps it does divert energy from the plant as a whole. I think you are supposed to cut the stalk down to the ground after it has finished flowering. Could someone let me know if this is correct?
Sounds right to me Clara!
Oh, good. Thanks, Lisa!
Thanks for the lovely pictures!
I have over 125 named cannas and all are blooming right now wish I had a way of posting a picture but I dont ....My pride and joy is my Ruby Cole which is in full bloom right now as is my Beloved, New white, Snow Dragon , orange punch, orange blush to name a few.lol.....
I am impatiently waiting for my cleopatra, which will be any day now.
Thanks Clara, I'll cut the stalks that have finished. I picked the seeds, soaked them a couple of days and planted them yesterday.
I love the Cleopatra leaf..what color does it bloom?
MsCritterkeeper, the cleopatra is my favorite. The leaves will have a red variegation somewhere in them (or not). the flowers are predominately yellow with red specks. There may be a red variegation on them somewhere (or not), sometimes a flower may be almost completely red (or yellow). You just never know how it will come out. The mystery is part of the fun.

That is a very interesting flower ! So where can we get one?
I only have a few canna's and this one can have a spot for sure.lol Thanks for the info & photos they are all very nice.
I got my first one in a trade from someone, but then in the spring I found that Horns had them for a decent price so I got several more from them. Definately my favorite due to the unpredictability.
mscritterkeeper, I think I have a small shoot coming up on the side of mine, would you like a start?
Lisa, your Cleopatra is beautiful!
Lisa,Thank you so much, I will email you.
