I think I caught it pretty fast, so hopefully it will be easy to treat. I took her back to the vet yesterday because she was not responding to the allergy meds or the change of diet. She started losing patches of hair on her back as well as her neck and chest.
It doesn't look too bad, but I knew something was going on. So the Vet took three scrapings in different spots on her body yesterday and found the mites this time. He said it is sometimes hard to get them with a scraping because they are not usually in every spot to be tested. He offered to show them to me on the slide, but I was pretty squeamish after having held her while he scraped her skin raw in spots for the specimen.
She had her first dip today and will have another and a skin scraping on the first of June. He said they will take a skin scraping each time she comes in and that they want two consecutive scrapings to be negative in order for her to get a clean bill of health. She did well with the first one. I bring her in early and leave her till after two and then she is done for that treatment. I just left her spend the night since she would be having it today and I didn't want to upset her too much. She likes it at the vet and was parading around behind the desk when I left her yesterday. Aside from being very thirsty when I brought her home this afternoon she seems to be fine.
It is hard to see her patchy spots since she is so short haired. Most of the loss is under her chin, neck and chest. You can see some of the patches and neck on this photo.
