Here is the female. These are really modified leaves that you see, the seeds form inside this clump of brown and are red and about 1.5 to 2 inches long.

I need to go & inspect mine to see if I have boys & girls! I have two huge 30 yr old sagos in my front yard growing underneath my boo.

They look so healthy!!

Thanks doc, these are old. They are probably 20-30 years old. They grow so slow. They do like fertilize and a good soaking from time to time, but when you do that, they make lots of pups around the bottom! Can't win, lol.

Wow cool pictures of male and female that I don't know that so I has couple of Sago Palms one of over 6 years old and others less than 3 years old . The pictures come out good, thanks Cala for show us.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Thank you for posting this Cala! My neighbor has a male, and today I was wondering what that thing was! I thought maybe a flower or something, but now I know it's just the male version.

OK ,I'll sound stupid...but if they send out pups,do they also form seed?if so...why?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, yes, both male and female plants send out pups. Only female plants make seed and I think they make seed only if a male plant is somewhere in the area to pollinate the flowers. I'm still learning about palms.
Yesterday I saw in the old part of Brownsville, down by the border, some HUGE sagos. There were all kinds of flowering trees too.

Leander, TX(Zone 8a)

My nieghbor's sago looks a bit diffrent, the center has never been this big in 7 years, (she thought it might be a tumor). Why now?
