A very good photograph, but wasn't it posted upside down? All the Brugmansia flowers I have seen hang down with the bell of the trumpet at the bottom, due to gravity... WTH

No. this is a Devil's trumpet, and they point straight up. It is a Datura.

Yep on both counts. Brugmansia (Angel's Trumpet) hangs down, like angels looking down from heaven...while Datura (Devil's Trumpet) points upwards, as though from the bowels of the earth. Or so the lore goes ;o)

The Devil's Trumpet also prefers hot, full sun, while the Angel Trumpet seems to prefer full shade.

OK. I sure wld like to see this plant in person. The double flower is truly spectacular. The only datura I am acquainted with is our native Jimson weed (D. wrightii aka D. meteloides) which rambles prostrate on the ground with large, white trumpet blossoms pointing up at an angle. See photo below.

I would like to see one of those (Jimson Weed). So many plants, so little time.

Your plant looks more mature than mine. We just planted ours this spring.
In what part of California?

A very good picture. Thanks

What a beautiful blossom! Where on earth do you find such a plant? I never see anything but the ordinary ones around here. Good job!

Roseboro, NC(Zone 8a)

What I really meant, was, not ordinary, because all of these plants have beautiful blooms, but something other than single white.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

We do have a seed pod. If there are several good seeds I could share.

This is an interesting thread. I just learned yesterday that Jimson Weed and datura are one and the same. I thought I had never seen a datura, but now I realize I've seen them all my life, they grow wild at my grandparents home in Louisiana. Is Jimson Weed and, or datura, the plant that was the center of the Nicholas Cage movie??? I've forgotten the name of the Cage movie. Do you have any idea where I might buy some double datura seeds??? SherryLike

I noticed that if I pick my seed pods in the fall that they will not sprout when planted, but if left till spring on the plant
then planted all is well
I had a yellow triple at one time, now I only have the single white but they smell heavenly.
I would love to have one again.
I had the purple also but the yellow is much better.
mine thrive near the foundation of the house in part shade zone 7 Ward Ar.
