Fountain I've made

Someone suggested me to have a fountain in my smallish pond. I finally made one, from odd stuff. I found that the tiny hole in an old pen working very well this morning as a little fountain. The pen fits perfectly to the pipe. It's a simple fixture to my 1/2 inch hose pipe that runs to the pond. The water jets up to about 2ft and spreads softly on the surface where quite a few fish gathered around. Thought this was a nice idea though it does not make a trickling sound. It is connected from a 10 gallon can mounted on a stand. Does this tiny fountain have any good results to my pond?

Fish love to play in moving water. Lots of fresh oxygen for them. Anytime you add moving water to your pond it's good.

Atta girl!! :)

In that case, I will have it on regularly. The water around the surface moves but the water deeper is greener with algae and the fish seem to enjoy. Visibility is poor 6" down.

You have an engineer's sharp mind, Dinu. I never would have thought of using a pen as a fountain head; what a good idea that was.

I forgot to tell that the hole is not at the usual end - removing the tip. But it is where we grip the pen. An air vent. The pen lies horizontally on a pot near the edge of the pond and the jet is adjusted so that water lands around the centre. Even a little breeze will change its course.

Luckily I found a couple of pieces of properly fitting pipes to use it the way I have. The idea triggered when my cousin told me that they were using a kerosene pump stove's head (I have no idea what it is like) for a fountain when they were young. Let me tell you, to my surprise too, that this pen-fountain throws a tiny jet 3 ft high from almost no pressure of water! Perhaps the gradual taper of the pipe has something to do. My good friend's digi-cam is out of order and hence I have to resort trying to explain in words till he gets it in working order. Certain things are not worth to capture on film. Economy is one reason too.

Engineer's sharp mind. Mmmm. The inclination was that, but I ended up on the opposite side. I have always opened the pen's parts as soon as one landed on me. I have even meddled watches and used to service (and some minor repairs too), oil it. I used to do it for my friends' too. Lesson: Those who possess an engineer's mind will end up collecting what others call "junk". The pen is one such item!

By that last definition, I must have an engineer's mind, too.

That's really cool!! Got my imagination going now. :)
