I have many plumerias healthy with no blooms question?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have many plumerias that are healthy but have not bloomed. I really think it is lack of enough hours of sunlight. Does anyone know if they start making their blooms the year before. You know store up what it needs to produce a bloom starting the after the blooming season now for next year or can I still get them to bloom this year? Do they do better blooming root bound? I want to see blooms. I am suppose to have a red, yellow, rainbow, white and I bought 10 pots at houston garden center at 70% off last year which made them 1.60 a pot with 2 and three to a pot. Some branched off with 2 or three branches and still had another in the pot. I was truely blessed. Right now one houston garden center has quite
a few pots 16.99 with 70% off of that.

I've been told to use the bloom boosting miracle grow. There are special Plumeria fertilizers available, mostly in the U.S., but you will have to wait for one of the more experienced growers to tell you the names.

You are very lucky! :)

Are your plumies from cutting or from seed? If these are seedlings they can take up to 3+ years to bloom.....or so I've read.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

If they are from cuttings of mature trees, you should get some blooms this season. I took 2 clippings from my neighbors trees. It took about 3 months after planting before I saw any signs of top growth.

My yellow has been in bloom now for 3 weeks. The pinkie I gave to a friend has leaves but no flowers. But the momma pinkie tree is a late bloomer too. She is just now starting to bloom.

The 3rd plumie, I bought off ebay, (Can't remember what color) is growing leaves now, I expect the flowers will be along within the next month.

I'm sure yours will get the idea soon, if you have green, the flowers will follow.

And since I'm rattling along, check out this site for more information. I followed this lady's advice when planting mine.

Mine are just starting to bloom. I'm a bit further north than you so your plumerias should have already bloomed. I have seedling that are 14 months old that are blooming. I feed with chicken manure tea.

Good Luck!

I have had Plumerias for several years, new ones that are already blooming [cuttings] and older ones 5 & 7 years old just started blooming last year..in the Plumeria Society, they suggest a fertilizer to help them bloom I cannot remember the name but will check on it...my seedlings are around 5 inchs. high, some I am told will bloom in about 18 months, others in 2 or 3 years, I really do believe it is the different kinds of species that blooms early or late and the reds are the most difficult to grow.

Just adding a ps...bone-meal and blood meal are also suggested as fertilizer, I prefer to garden organically so use fish emulsion too and manure tea [ have used it for years but make sure manure is very aged] I also add fish emulsion in with the ''tea''....do not overwater either and they need good drainage.. I also spray mine frequently with water [ spritz] this really helps them respond [ and I put Vit B l plant starter] in the water and spray with this too....I know to encourage blooms you need a fertilizer with a good bloom set..I have it written down somewhere just not had time to find any yet...And yes they do need a lot of sunshine, I have a sunroom so they get more than enough but you must place them where they will get good sunlight..[ and a lot of it]

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

putting them on a driveway or like heat source will help them.. the bloom booster fert.. and spray-n-grow [ sprayngrow.com ] is allways helpful.. if they are seedlings they might take longer to bloom as was mentioned.. but lots of sun helps..Gordon

I have about thirty I started from seed the first of the summer. Should they be outside also? I have them on the sunny side of the GH. They just seem so small to be outside.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

8 Hours a day of sunlight, ample but not too much water and feed every two weeks in summer with a bloom booster fertlizer, IE Peters super bloom booster 15-50-15 or similar in makeup. They need high phosphorus in summer and little nitrogen.

Good to see you posting. Did you get any of the bad weather/
oriole

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, 80 to 90 MPH winds. Blew a couple large branches of the mango tree down on my phone line. Bell South was here this a.m. to fix the line. I was impressed.

Landlord came today and cut up and hauled out the tree limbs.

My sis came down from Mich to help me move and she got her first hurricane. We never even lost power though, we were very lucky.
