You mean like the wild blackberry that grows everywhere around here?
Tart berries? Vicious thorns?
LMK if thats really what youre looking for.
Jen

Well, My father brought some back from the pines in central arizona in the 70's. He called them wild blackberries. to me i didnt care whether they were wild or not, they still tasted great straight off the vine. and on my corn flakes. They Turn a dark deep purple, the size of a quarter coin., very thorney vines.
I guess 5 feet would be good to start with.

I'll have to plant them, in a semi-shady spot. and keep them watered.

Don't know what type I had, but i know they didn't grow in the winter, only in spring, and i had to water them every 2 days, and they grew very quickly.

Hi, is this what you are looking for? There is a lot growing at the back of our new house - it certainly is very thorny. We are in zone 8a so it must be able to grow where you are too. let me know if you want me to save some from the re-grading.

the fruit looks the same, but my leaves were a darker green, which was probably because of sunlight.

Hey, I just sent you an e mail about waiting til the weekends over ... sorry bout the wait. My blackberries are different than Natashas"s. They grow on an upright cane. Sorry I dont have a pict for you. They havent flowered yet anyhoo.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Our blackberrys grew straight up on a vine because we attached them to chicken wire on the wall.
eventually after a few years they formed a 4 inch trunk and reached the top of the peak of the roof.

(Zone 4b)

Definitely a different kind of blackberry! Are you game for trying mine? They are not a vine but a cane which will make a thicket if left loose for a few years.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Do you mean a stalk like corn, or sugar cane?
If only it could be found in a database with some info about temperate zones, If it can stand the cold there, it certianly can stand the cold here, don't know if it can stand the high temperature & low humidity, even if it IS in the shade & is watered all the time. Don't know, see if you can find it in the database.

Found these in the Plant database, It was the Pacific Blackberry that matches closest to what i had.
The Bramble is The second closest match.

Pacific Blackberry
Rubus ursinus

Bramble, Wild Blackberry
Rubus fruticosus

Well I think a cane is just the term for a upright stem. Its really up to you if you want the blackberries or not. Its your adventure!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

sure , i'll try it.
I'll send the aloe vera.

Brandon, MS(Zone 8a)

We are going over to our new house on Saturday so I will try to save some - I'll let you know what I get.
