Not sure what I have here, I know it is a Abutilion (that's how it is spelt on the tag, but is there actually two i's?)
I've never seen one like this, but was taken by the varieagation and the red and yellow combination. Plus I knew my 13 year old son would love it........... and I was right, when he saw it he said "wow that's awesome". Pretty high praise from a teenager.
If anyone can tell me more about this plant I would sure appreciate it. The tags says
"Abutilion Apricot"
Fertilize 2X week
Sun to Part Shade.
I was planning on keeping it on my screened in back porch which gets full sun in the morning, and is lightly shaded in the afternoon. If that's not enough, sun, it can go to the front covered porch in the afternoon.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Abutilion ID help
I think it is usually called trailing abutilion. Will check for exact species.
It's abutilon Megapotamicum Variegatum
Aww...Eclipse beat me to it.
In any case, here is the link to the main Abutilon megapotamicum entry in the plants database. The variegated type doesn't seem to have it's own entry right now.
Don't think that second "i" should be in there.

Thanks for the help everyone.
That's fantastic! I've about given up on Abutilons...all seem a bit unhappy here in Florida Zone 9b...except the one Susie gave me which is upright. I've gotten this fellow from Logees and it was a itty bitty thing 2 years ago and sadly, still is! Never seen a full hanging basket like this...just beautiful!
Thanks to Hummer Nut, i have one of these. I have it in the ground, but am i reading that it would do better in a hanging basket?
Thanks
Jen
Can you believe that I found this beauty at a local nursery for only $12.99.
Kathy, it is a great looking plant and you did get a great deal on it.
Thanks Shirley,
I may need some help on how to try and overwinter it. Maybe that isn't possible, or not worth the effort/room.
I'm sure someone can tell you how to do that. The only time I tried to over winter a very common one, it got spider mites and I had to toss it.
Spider Mites ................... maybe I won't try. ;-)
Shoot, back then I didn't even know what spider mites were. Now I have sprays that I can get them with.
It's very pretty, Tree. I purchased a Abutilon "Ruffles" from Logee's over a year ago, and it has done quite well in a hanging basket. I just gave it to my mom for Mother's Day. It is sharing a container with some Lantana that I grew from seed. They are very easy to take care of. Did you know that it is a virus which causes the variegation? I thought that was interesting.
This is "Ruffles" from Logee's:
This one was a very tall one that I had purchased from Aloha Tropicals. The leaves were always curled and mottled, and I didn't like the way they looked. I am sure that it was infested with spider mites, and I even spayed them with Avid, but I couldn't improve the appearance of the leaves so I destroyed this one.
Edited to fix spelling.
