I was reading KathyJo's post 'May 15th' about moving the cattle and feeling such a sense of pride. It reminded me of the following story:
Several years ago, we were raising pigs and we had about 13 sows and several 'older babies' running around (this particular day). Well, supposedly ALL the pigs got loose and decided to go visit everyone in the neighborhood. They were partaking of flowers, lawns, and garbage, etc.....
Ralph got a call from a neighbor and away him and our son, Jeff ran.....after them. I was working about 45 minutes from home. The guys had been running ragged for a half hour, when another concerned neighbor called me at work and said that neighbors were trying to help and the guys were just having no luck!
I told my boss I had an emergency at home and flew out the door, into the car, and made it home in record time (maybe 30 minutes). I ran into the house, dumped a bag of apples into a 5 gallon bucket and proceeded to head up the street. Now mind you, I was in my dress and dress shoes from working in the office.
When I was in eyesight of the pigs, I started rattling the bucket. Have you ever seen several dozen pigs charging? :) They slowed down to a walk when we hit the road and they followed me all the way home and into the pasture, every one of them!!!
I looked back to see my hubby, son, and neighbors just standing there with their mouths wide open, scratching their heads in disbelief. I wish I had a camera that day, not only for me with the pigs, but for the look on their faces. :)
I guess I looked like the Pied Piper. I had forgotten all about that story, thanks KathyJo for sparking my memory. :) Kathy
