First good Koi sighiting

Mobile, AL(Zone 8b)

My son purchased this Koi for me for Mother's Day 2 years ago. It was about 6 inches. It's about 12 inches now. I was cleaning out some of the floaters and was finally able to see it today.

Do they so rarely be sighted? I'm a bit new to water gardens. I also have bought (just 4 days ago) a couple of Wail Tail Koi Carp and left them in my little pond. I have since seen it only once. Just want to know a bit more about this fish.

I let my floaters over grow the pond in the winter to help keep the fish covered. I have some that will come anytime I put food in but others that are very shy. This one has been shy. When I removed alot of the floaters I was able to see him but I was on the other side of the pond and had to use the teloscopic lense to get his picture.

Tortoisekeeper,
How large is your koi pond? Looks very nice.

It is about 12 feet wide by 14 feet long and about 2.5 to 3 feet deep. This is the left side. It has an island down the middle.

Sounds very nice. I plan on putting in a pond and just don't know how large to go. I want something comfortable for the fish and the plants. I'm still now sure how many fish I'll do yet. This project is not in the near future but as soon as I get the other landscaping/gardeing around the house in order I shall tackle it. Maybe next spring or something. BTW nice pictures. Thanks for posting this thread.

Go as big as you can. Ponding is a addiction. I now have 2 more inground ponds. Two swimming pools with water lilies and about 6 garden containers.

Wow... Tips from a very experienced person. I really appreciate your insight. Thanks for your input. I'll be sure to keep it in mind. I suppose it's a bit like getting a greenhouse. The bigger the better.
