Just starting to bloom here. I think the back is as pretty as the front :)

Dea, how many clematis varieties do you grow?

Here's one I have no idea what the name is :) I just thought it was so neat looking as it opened with leaves not yet done and stamens not yet colored.

What do you use for trellises for all of these beauties? They really are sharp looking.

Just about anything we can find :) Seriously, they go up a few arbors we have but mostly up small trees, shrubs, fences.

Here's another few I found rambling around this evening:

A tiny trellis that will soon be overwhelmed :)

Hello, my name is Donna & I am a clematis addict. LOL The truth. I cannot go past a nursery without running inside to see if they have any. I just got 2 more today at Wal Mart. They are puny little things but some different ones from my other 8. I also ordered 3 from Park seed on friday in their big 70% off sale & I got the big double Piilu for $4! Also got durandii & montana odorata for the same price. I got out of there pretty cheap. :)
I am also trying to get cuttings to root. Have you had any success with that? A friend of mine says "Oh heck, those are easy! When I worked at the nursery I would just take all the cuttings & stick them in whatever was handy & they would root." Uh huh. I guess it is all in the attitude in which you place your cuttings. The "I don't give a hoot if you live or die" seems to be the most effective.
Your pictures are lovely. I can totally understand your love of these plants.

Here's a little viticella growing in the shade climbing a pine tree.

Very pretty! It is so amazing to me how many different varieties there are.
You said shade, is that full shade? I have some trees I wanted to let some climb up but the trunks are in full shade & I did not know if they could handle it. Does it depend on the variety?
About 2 weeks ago I stuck a bunch of cuttings in damp vermiculite & covered them. The ones I put under the patio where it stays cool & no sun ever hits look really good, even getting a few new leaves. the ones I put on the side where it gets warm, the leaves are turning black.
