Clare, are you growing this? This is another one of those vines I see in my Sunset gardening book and wish I could grow. This looks quite purple.

Hi Lenjo, yes, I grew this vine from seed that someone from Brazil sent to me. I sowed the seeds about a year and a half ago, and it is flowering now for the first time. It is fairly purple.

Here is a wider shot. The Bougainvilla next to it is a hot pink. This side of the house gets a lot of shade. Lenjo, I can let you know, if you like, if I get seeds following the flowers.

Sure, Clare I would love to try some seed.
I have pandorea up in the GH and will be curious if I can get it through the winter. Also bought a start from Select Seeds of senecio ?, the red daisy looking tropical vine and it has really taken off and growing so quickly. I just love all the tropical vines but it is a challenge to winter them through. My GH is not heated.Have you ever tried the Rhodochiton ?, this is a purple looking bell, I have tried twice and the seed is so tiny.

Hi Joann,

Dalechampia dioscoreifolia is supposed to be hardy to 20-25 degrees. Pandorea jasminoides is about the same. Senecio confusus can be planted outdoors in your zone. It will be killed to the ground by frost but will return quickly. See this link: http://www.floridata.com/ref/S/sene_con.cfm and http://plantsdatabase.com/go/1329/index.html

I have not tried Rhodochiton atrosanguineus, but these days, I'm only making room in my garden for fragrant vines like Stephanotis, Telosma cordata, and Beautimontia grandiflora. I get most of my tropical vines from Logee's. Here's a link: http://www.logees.com/store/

This is a gorgeous plant!

Hi All,

I found this vine at Maas Nursery & Landscaping in Seabrook, TX. I haven't placed it in the ground yet, but it seems to like morning sun here in the Clear Lake (south of Houston) area. Since purchasing it 3 weeks ago it has sent out several tendrils that have latched onto a nearby trellis.
