Taking brugs to take to my new home
Hi folks - I'm in New York for a week before I go back to Ireland with all of my "stuff" - movers will be here on Monday. I want to take several of my brugs. I have a few 6 foot plants that I was thinking of chopping above the Y as opposed to mutilating the entire plant - I want Doug to have something here in NY.
What do people recommend - mutiliate a plant and get the woody section below the Y or take some stuff above the Y with a few leaves.
What would have a better chance of flowering this year?
My new house in Dublin has a wonderful courtyard that will make a nice display for brugs. I can post some pictures when I get back.

Sandra if it were me, I'd take cuttings from the flowering region and then use the basal shoots once they come up for your plants for next year. Almost always, mine will send up basal shoots. That is just a suggestion.
Can someone please explain 'basal shoots' to me? And why they are good to use? Thank you.
Brugie - thanks. So I understand right - you're referring to the "secondary" plants that grow up from under the dirt alongside the main plant, right? Almost like when a daylily sends off more small fans? pardon my ignorance... :)
You've got it Sandra.
Thanks - I'll do just what you suggested - this is going to be a busy year, so won't have a lot of time to garden, but next year should be much better - and this will set me up for that.
It does feel nice to have DG access again this week (at least until I go back to Dublin again) - still need to get a computer and hook up internet access there.
Definitely, you will need a computer so we can hear from you more often. I hope you have a safe trip back.
Great to see ya posting sbarr! Hope all is going ok.
