WILL BE GATHERING THESE LUPIN SEEDS VERY SOON

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

CLOSED until further after I've collected them and divide them!

If you are on the list, please email me now.

(almost a month early, I might add, because of our weird Spring weather this year).

I have pink ones and blue ones, which I will keep separated. If anyone would like any, just let me know, and I will put you on the list, and contact you via. email when it's time.

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Karrie I would like to have some of your lupines also.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

yardbird - did you want pink, blue or both? I'm putting all of these on an excel spreadsheet so I can remember who has asked first, and who wants what. :) The pink ones have slight little white tips on the pink blooms, and they almost glow in the dark at night - very pretty to look at in the evening. :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Think I should have room for about 2 or 3 more. Then I'll have to save the rest for the "evaluation" time, just to be safe. I will email you all via here when they are ready. All of you are on my spreadsheet. All I will need is a SASE. I might have some other little things (like a pretty columbine I have that noone knows what it is, see identification forum for that) to send along as well.

:) in the garden,

Karrie

OK - going to put a halt to it here. Will have you all on the list and divide what I get from them. They are blooming a very long time this year (lovin it) and when they are done will dry them and then send you all the info. No need to send postage "yet".

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Those of you posting above, please email me now. I was reading in my propagation book (American Horticulture Society) that for lupins, you want to plant the freshest seeds available. I wanted to wait to send with others, but want to hopefully provide you with good propagation, so want to send them right away. If you email me, I'll send you the address for the SASE.

I have enough of the Ruby Star Echinecea to send that as an extra to all of you on this list. (Hot Pink Coneflower, basically). If you don't want them, just specify that in your email, as someone else might.

I've read in a number of places that these hybrid lupines do not come true to the parent. The instructions that came with mine said to remove the seed before they scattered as they would revert to the original - whatever that is, the wild I presume, but do not know. Just for your information...

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Well - that is what I did - I clipped off full "stalks" yesterday of them. They are from completely different sources (the two of them) and I am keeping them separated (the clippings). I would most certainly like to hear more about this, so I don't send someone something that should be pink and it end up being red, white, or whatever.......

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Two years ago I let some of mine (Russell Red) drop some seeds and I'm waiting for them to grow up to see what they produce. This year they are about half the size of the parent so I'm guessing it'll be next year before I know what color they will be. Not sure where you could find out more about them. Maybe a google search... I'll give it a try.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Well - then I guess if they want the seed, and want to risk what they get, they can still have it, no guarantees. I saw some real pretty reddish coral ones today that I just loved. Would like to get some of those, if possible.

I didn't let these drop. I read my propagation book and it said to propagate them as soon as possible, so since I was sharing, took some clippings as soon as the bottoms of some of the stalks started the die off, so the birds wouldn't get them and to keep them fresh.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

'Propagation: Seeds, self-seed, but new plants won't look like parents, basal cuttings in spring.'

This is what I found on one site. Also said they do not like lime but lots of water and compost. Another site said they will revert to blue at some point. So I guess you take your chances and get surprised at what color you get! This is for the Russell strain. There are also annual lupines and the bluebonnet variety. Also some are poisonous but not all - to livestock also.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I just read what I got out of the American Horticulture Society Book of Propagation. It didn't mention that, just that to plant the seeds as fresh as possible.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Good luck! :)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

no kidding! Guess after this convo it's ask for them at your own risk! :) thanks kooger!

Danbury, NH(Zone 5b)

Hello,
I would love some also......if you have more.

thank you in advance,
Linda

Northern Virginia, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Karrie, I really don't care what color the lupines turn out to be. as I really prefer mixed colors anyway so not a problem if they turn out to be different than blue or pink when they bloom. Kathryn

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Someone this weekend sent me an email regarding SASE. It went to my junkmail box. When I tried to click "not junkmail", I clicked delete instead. I cannot retrieve junkmail deletes from my trashcan. If you sent me an email after Friday noon, please resend it. Thanks!
