Would you look at this.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

My Butterfly is so loaded with buds right now, and I noticed today that these little green side shoots coming off the main trunk have buds, too. I haven't seen little shoots like this with buds before, when they are so small, and below the "Y" even, some of the little shoots even have 2 buds on them. It is gonna be awesome when the whole tree is covered in blooms, even the trunk, lol.

Butterfly is a great bloomer. Yours will look great when she opens up with all that gorgeous color.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Golden Lady does that, makes little buds all over the stem. It will be a beauty when it's in full bloom.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Susie, I was going to say that!! But be careful Mary. If you want that to be an alley tree do not let the sideshoots get too big. It scars so much then when you finally take them off. I made that mistake with GL.

I can't wait to see pictures of it in bloom. My BF is in full bloom but it had some kind of leaf crud so I am not enjoying it at all!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Those of us without blooms wouldn't mind the leaf crud so feel free to post pictures. LOL!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell....I am still waiting for my book by monika...Do I need to remove all green leaves from the main branch (below the top growth) for an alley tree? Seems like I would have to, but I'm not sure.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Really neat Mary

Orange Park, FL(Zone 8b)

I'm so tickled it will be beautiful :)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

It is going to be a beautiful site to behold when all those open. Butterfly has such a beautiful flower.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Picturelady,it is almost the same wth training any standard.you want to keep lower growth off,to promote the streching, but you don't want to do it so much,as to stunt the plant, and make it recover from a pruning.Unless it is a cutting from above the Y(in the flowering region)they pretty much want to grow straight up,when they get bigger,I just put my hand around the trunk and rub it up and down,to clean off growth.I do he same with my Bald Cypress.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Cool! I didn't think it would happen like this but it does.... That's great plant that have several buds! :o)

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Can hardly wait to see a photo of that when its blooming. It is going to be beautiful.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Congrats Mary! That's really cool -- can't wait to see the in-bloom pictures...

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Mary, apparently, the cutting was taken out of the flowering region.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

now that is awesome...

I'll remember the advice about the sideshoots when/if my Butterfly or GL ever bloom
