Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

snow here yesterday; still some on the ground but enviro canada says good for the next 4 days - hmm maybe that will be summer...

What is it Pam??

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

It is my Plumeria stick. I planted it two months ago and so far I haven't turned it to mush. I have drooled over these plants ever since I was 7 and my parents went to Hawaii. The Lei's and their pictures have made me lust after it ever since. I was so upset with them for not bringing one back from there. I think Dad picked up some African Violets and Epis on the return trip but nothing from Hawaii. :( They come in so many colors...I am now lusting for a peach or rainbow colored one.
edited to say heck I am lusting after them all! ;)

Well, I've got brugs blooming outside in the garden. Liz helped me pot up big pots with bananas and tropicals. We've had weather in the 20's ( that's centigrade) for a month or so. My last frost was in February.

I moved out to Vancouver Island when I was 22 from the East Coast because I hate snow. It's great on the mountains but not on the ground.

Living on the Canadian prairies is not for wimps. Sometimes I wish I was a wimp........like when winter never ends.......just goes on....and on....and on......

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

and on.....and on...... and on! I must admit it breaks my heart when I see what some of our Southern neighbors call winter. As much as I drool over what others call winter, and what they can grow outside, I must admit that I need the sun and the Prairie winter usually supplies lots of that. B.C. is overcast for much of the year, California has the quakes and crowded conditions, Florida etc. the extreme heat and humidity....I have to remind myself that there are the positives and negatives everywhere.

Liz I meant the frost you will get long after our winter moves in. ;)

Here's a better close-up....I've had it confirmed that this is an inflorescence (the beg. of the flower stalk). :D

reminds me of the movie termmors

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

That was the one I was trying to think of too! The movie where the creatures burrowed through the soil.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Or Alien, Lilypon. How exciting! Now if you can grow Plumeria stick there--why would you envy us in the wetlands? You just need to use some good ole pioneer ingenuity and determination. Besides, lots of nasty creatures can't make it through your winters. There ARE many advantages. I can hardly wait to see this grow! Anticipation is always the hook for the gardener, don't you think?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Hey Sunrize! Oh yes!! And I have tons of anticipation!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot the *nasties* I hate spiders, it's been tempered somewhat with our innoculous ones, but I remember the spiders you have at the coast. My Uncle lived in Port Moody and I just dreaded going to the bathroom in the morning...he had a spotless house but the bathroom sink and tub would be crawling with all kinds. I suppose they came up the pipes.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Out of habit, I always check the tub before climbing in every morning. This house is OK, but one old one I lived in across from the ocean, it was scary to look in the tub in the mornings. I'm not a fan of those black hairy fast running spiders, yuk!

Linda

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I can see why you would do that Linda! I can't remember any particular one but I do remember that some were very colorful and the thought that a black widow might be amongst them really freaked me out!!! :S
