What do you soak your Brugs in?

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Ok I thought it would be a good idea since there are so many new people joining that they would be interested to know what to soak their Brugmansia seeds in and how much.

Ciao!!

water & peroxide (10%)

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I peel my seeds, then give them a 5 minute bath in 10 parts water to 1 part bleach, to kill any fungus or bacteria, I may have transfered to the seeds when peeling. If the seeds are not fresh, I then soak them in plain water overnight, after their bleach bath.

Thanks to everyone who is posting, I think it will help those who are unfamiliar with the process of assuring your seeds are prepped properly for best results.

I soak my seeds in water for 24 hours
Next, soak 1/10 water/Bleach
(1 cup bleach/10 Cups water, mixed in 1 Gal. jug)
for 10 minutes.

I do not peel

I use peat pellets using underneath heating pad set to 'Lo' and over head flourescent light above.

I am interested using rock wool in the near future.

Julie,
I just peel and put 'em in the ground :)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'd love to be able to sow mine in the ground, but I always hope to get bloom the first year if I can and that means starting them by the first of the year. At that time here it would take a jack hammer and pickax to dig a hole. Think I better stick to pots and soil or RW.

Grady, AL(Zone 8a)

I pot mine, so I did mean in the dirt instead of ground :)

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I just got RW yesterday.. My first time.. Gonna to soak the seeds tmw night! Does I need to soak the RW first before plant the seeds in? LMK

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I havent used the rockwool yet MiniSchnuz but I believe I have read they do have to be soaked first.

Ciao!

Best of luck

I wish I had known about soaking them in the bleach/water before planting. I did use rockwool, but no sign of life yet and I'm a little suspicious, thinking there might be some mildew. Is there anything that can be done about mildew at this stage in the game, seeds in rockwool and no movement??

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Tricia, I didn't soak my RW, just wet it and planted. No problems. It especially worked great for my canna seeds. Just remember it is very important to keep it enclosed in a dish with plastic wrap or in a clear plastic bag so no critters can get in there.

I did wet the rockwool and draining it well not too soggy, planted seeds in not too deep and put it in ziplock and sealed!
