OK...you finally made me ask !!! Should I write her or is it on her web-site that I cannot read?! Is there a permit required and what else do I need to know???
How can I get some seeds from monika??
LOL..we are all wondering how to get some of her seeds..
So....what is the answer ???
I read in another post that she would rather send seeds than plants, so how can we get some?
Monika....where are you??? I am sure you know the answer!
What is her link ? if it is german I can translate,
Brigitte
eglantyne....thank-you so much....here it is....
http://www.monika-gottschalk.de/
I'm so happy that you asked, Margie!! I would prefer plants, but if I have to settle for seeds, that's what I'll do. Is a plant permit required for seeds too?? Brigitte, maybe you can translate her www and let us know. TIA!!! SherryLike
LOL you guys!! You sound like me when I was new. I wanted all I saw esp the special ones. And I wanted them immediatley even if not quite up to growing them. Well, perhaps after you guys have been here awhile and grown brugs for awhile, Monika seeds will be more available. Growing brugs is her business not a hobby so her seeds are in little different status than say mine! Sadly that last statement is the truth!
Most of them she grows out herself for her business and I understand gives some to be grown out to other growers if you are very lucky. I do not believe she sells seeds and I do not think she sells many if any cuttings in the US. I know as a very special thank you she has shared not sold but usually it is her policy to sell in Europe only.
So I think the word here is be patient and perhaps some day the pink fairy will bless us all with some seeds.
...and, I do not mind the cost of what ever it might be. I have a 9 year old granddaughter who makes every step I take and she is as interested in these plants as I am. Madeline raced in this afternoon and said, Mimi, come look, quick, Maya has some nubbies, with green!
She was absolutely thrilled!!! I'd love for Madeline to have the opportunity to participate in tending to plants that might shape her life. My interest is for myself, I do love the appearance and fragrance of the brug, but, if the truth was known, I do all this, brugs and dogs, etc, for my grands. We also dance, crochet, play chess, bridge, roller blade and run each day. Life is wonderful and I want my grands to enjoy every minute and I'd love for brugs to play a roll, ya know??!!
If we don't educate the kiddos, just think of what the world will miss...
very well said sherry! Kids don't learn how to garden unless we teach them.
I think I would start the Grandkids off with a Frosty Pink, that way they could cut on it and root it and enjoy seeing it grow to bloom, just be sure they wash their hands good, and learn proper care of toxic plants, they need to walk before they run.;0)
springsong, you make my heart go pitty pat, where in the world did you come from, sweet girl!!!! Oh, yeah brundidge/troy AL!!! Oh, so close to home, I have lots of family in AL and my kids vacation on the coast. springsong, my daddy, his mother and daddy and my great grand momma taught me to garden. Just today, my daddy told me something very interesting. Daddy is quite the farmer, just one of his specialties is green onions. He said that he recently planted a world of onion sets - 1/2 in MG and the other half in his own top soil. Daddy also 'tended' the MG sets with a whole bunch of stuff but not too much of anything and that the onions in the 'local' top soil produced onions twice the size of the others. That is true because he brought me both and they were quite obviously different, with the ones without all the extras being far superior. I'd say daddy's were three fourths bigger. I don't have a clue what that means, except that there might be, except that some of us (hello you guys in maybe 7a on down), might have an edge on nutriments and our 'stuff' might not need help. Ya think??!! Whatever, springsong, you are a dolly and I sincerely appreciate your post and that you understand where I am!!!!! SLike
Do you guys understand the regulations on imports?
I tried to get an import permit....first there's the hassle of the paperwork. Then your GH has to be inspected, can't get a permit without the first inspection......because any import you bring in had to be kept in quarantine for 2 years. They(the brugs) can not come with in 10 feet of any other plant in the same family(brugs ,peppers ,tomato's etc....)When I asked ,well what about a room in my house totally for them under lights..?
They said they had not approved a set up like that yet, none had past their qualifications.
Any plant I import must be kept on the premises, and it will be inspected 2 x's a year @ 25 bucks an inspection, plus they can make surprise inspections. You can not take cuttings or propagate it for those 2 years.....
Since my GH is only 10X20 it would be almost impossible to keep the imports 10 feet from the USA brugs
Thats why a 10X20 addition is going on this summer so I can meet their requirments.....
Then I gotta save up big bucks to pay for the imports AND the mega shipping fees.....
crestedchik, Sounds like you are really serious about importing plants, if you are adding to your GH to meet their requirements. I knew that a permit was necessary and the 10' requirement and the no cutting or pollen use for 2 years. I did not know about the inspection to get the permit or the 2x a year visits during the first 2 years.
I live in zone 9 so there is some chance I could keep the brug out in a sheltered area for the winter and it would survive. Would they take that into account, I wonder?!
I do have a call into Plant Imports, so I guess I will find out myself if it does. Thank you for all of your information.
Does all that restriction also include seeds?
on another thread...monika said that you needed a permit for seeds, but no quarrantine period required....
Here is a web-site for the agri. permit....you can download one!

crestedchic posted: Do you guys understand the regulations on imports?
crestedchik, thank you so much for your post and your interest!!! I 'think' I understand the regulations and I have an excellent situation, that should/would qualify, and, I would welcome inspections. I have segregated property that, I believe, would/should qualify, all being heated/cooled, 24/7, and the plants should be safe.
I don't see the permit and inspeciton as unusual or reason to advoid pursuit of out of country plants. But, hey, what do I know, I'm an Arky...SLike
Just make sure you never have a whitefly of aphid anywhere near the brugs........
and be ready for some losses, even the experts loose plants no matter how hard they try to keep them alive.....It kills you to loose a plant that you have invested so much time and money on,and they (the grower sending plants) usually won't replace any losses.too much paper work (and the inspectors want to know why they died)You have to go thru the whole process again.
And the paper work.
Make sure EVERTHING is filled out correctly and ALL permits are filed.
I think it was Barbara ,had somehow gotten some of the paperwork messed up....and they(The import station) destroyed her whole order. And she couldn't do anything about it.......so thats money out the window....
Just look at NH,they have lost so much time and money....their whole investment........they'll come back from it but I'm glad I'm not in their shoes
can I ask why you guys don't want to order from the USA suppliers?
there are sooo many awesome brugs that are just being released from lots of US growers
I know you're saying, well, why does CC want to import if there are so many good ones already in the USA.....
Its cause I have most of the good ones that are available in the USA, ( I'm saying most, there are still some US brugs I covet and don't have),I need the imports for some serious breeding to get the USA brugs to look like the Euoropean brugs eventually .....
To those that have received seeds from Monika, what kind of permit did you have to get? How much did it cost? How long does it take to get one?
CC...what would you suggest for a USA brug that is dark pink/rose? Or even a double pink? is there such a thing in the USA?
There maybe be a double pink this year, there are quite a few seedlings that have the potential, and tons of breeders going for it.there is a double peach that NH was selling, someone might have cuttings available.....
As for some of the best dark pinks...L'amour,and butterfly spring to mind but I'm half asleep,(I know there are others)
and they are pretty easy to get from a good trade or someone just being generous.....and there are some good ones just coming out this year with real good color......
Help me out here everyone...maybe start a link with picture of favorite dark pink brugs.....
Ya know if you have perennials or tropicals they work for trading for brugs too...there are plenty of people who will trade
you don't have to think you gotta trade brug for brug....
and if you really want to trade with someone, and you know there are plants they are looking for ,buy the plants they're looking for and trade it.....its kinda like paying for the plant but its a way to avoid minimum orders and makes you look like a hero......
Wow CC! That sure is alot of trouble to go to! Gosh, I had NO idea. I never wanted to go to all the trouble of quarentine and such, but now, I surely dont lol.
As far as the bugs, do they (the inspectors and higher ups) not want to see any around because of possibly spreading a disease or such? I had never seen a white fly until I got brugs, then I was spraying every 3 days for them (the WFs) not too long after I got them (the brugs).
Cant wait to see your GH CC. How exciting. Dont you have all kinds of foul?? I would love to see some pics, and (if I remember right) your website? Do ya have a link?
I have and will trade brug cuttings for large quanities of regular and different kinds of fresh seeds for my wildflower garden. Can't do it right now though. Have to wait a month or 2.
Yup,I have all kinds of poultry!
And its crazy around here to keep them out of the GH now that the doors are open.Last year 2 of the peacocks hatched their eggs in there and now they think its their peacock house...LOL
Its been so long since I updated any of my websites,I kinda ran out of time...don't know if they even exist anymore
here one of my chickens
The regulations are so strict because brugs can harbor some nasty viruses that could infect important agricultural crops. The Columbian datura potyvirus is deadly to solonaceae plants and the USDA is pretty serious about keeping it out of this country
I keep saying I'm not poty training them....
LOL CC. That is quite a chicken. Good eating?
CC, I LOVE your chicken, he is very beautiful, I just adore his head gear!!!
Kell are you hungry???
Kell, that would be the most expensive chicken dinner you ever had.....
Talking about nice Dark Pinks, try these links and see what yall think. I know it's not doubles but at least it's a start?
Let me know what yall think..... and where can we get more of the pinks? I have Isabella, Butterfly, Pink Ing, Pink Beauty, and Ecuador Pink. Are there doubles out there? Where... :o)

My My CC! What a hairdo!! LOL now at the risk of totally sounding stupid, CAN you potty train chickens? lol DH would kill me, but I want one so bad! :o)
I have double pinks...............in my mind only! LOL! One day there will be double pinks. Could be growing from seed in someones garden right now and we just don't know it. Other good pinks are Rosamond, Georgenpalais (sp), Rosenquartz, L'Amour, Rothkirch, Rosabelle, Pink Favorite, First Day, Blush, Strawberry Creme, and there are more. Check the plants data base to get more ideas.

LOL,I was talking about the potyvirus and my brugs.....
As for the chickens, nope,I don't think you can poty train them.......they go when and where they want....and its not pretty
but the bantams make great pets cause they are small, and they come in almost and variety they have in large fowl....I have heard of people keeping them in a bird cage....
Thanks for the links, WW!!!
Shirley, I love the pinks and really wish there was some place in my general area where i could go to look and purchase plants. In the past two years that I've been watching for brugs (every place I go, I look), I have not seen a single one, for purchase, that had anything on it but 'white', 'yellow', etc, not a single one with a name. They are very pretty and healthy, but I'm ready to be a brug name dropper, Rosamond, Rosabelle, L'Amour and that double pink that's in your mind, LOL!!! It's kinda like dogs, where it is said: it costs just as much to feed, house and care for a bad, ugly dog as it does a good one. That's pretty much the way I feel about brugs...SherryLike
Brugie and WW...thank you for your links and suggestions! That gives me more to check on !!
Sherry...that is sooo true! It is a good way to look at it!
No telling how long the waiting line is for seeds from Monika!
CC, love you chicken....so pretty!!!
have you guys gone to Tracey's site??? She has L'Amour there, only place I know. If I were you and you are so pink crazed, quick sign up before they are gone! I think L'Amour is the darkest brug around. It is a deep pink with an orangey tint to it but no way orange. I tis the only brug that gets dark where I live.
I just took this of L'Amour about to open. The skirt is turning pink.
OMG CC lolol ooops! potyvirus... sheesh! :o)
Wow Kell! So pretty! I have to agree Traceys site is amazing!! I will end up buying somthing from her I know it!
Great picture, Kell..where did you find that plant?
Unless I am mistaken, Tracey also has Rosabelle, Rosamond, Butterfly and I am not sure of the othe beauties. You have all heard praises regarding her brugs. If she has not opened her website back up, just send her an email and ask her to hold the ones you want and by the beginning of June, I believe her site will be open again.
