Hello gardening friends

Portland, OR

I'm so happy to find you. Looking forward to exchanging ideas as I fight all the ivy growing in my recently purchase Portland Or garden. Any suggestions of an easier way of purging it other than yanking it by the roots would be greatly appreciated. It's killing everything!

Hello and welcome from the other side of the state. My ivy has been babied along for years and is finally growing up a tree trunk. I can sympathize with you however since all of us have something we can't seem to get rid of. My climate is the opposite of yours but we have had some rain this week which we needed badly.

Welcome to Dave's. Have only been here a month but can tell you these are helpful people. As to killing ivy I've heard it's nearly unkillable so luck to you. There's one patch of Boston ivy leaning against and climbing up the trailer on the lot next door. I live in the desert and God doesn't water here, still it survives and enlarges each year.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hi from Iowa. Hope you get your problem with the ivy solved. I have bind weed that I have to deal with every year. It gets old, but I love to garden, so I'm trying to deal with it. Hope to see you around the forums. Again, WELCOME to Daves.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I guess I should appreciate the garden heaven I'm in. I moved to Portland from Rochester Ny a few years ago and I certainly am having a lot more fun in the garden where everything grows. I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone!

Welcome, I try hard to make parts of my desert look like it grew in Porland / suffer from Porland envy as previously reported here. Won't leave my red sand, though, so struggling along.
Have gotten some good ideas and a plant wish list as long as a page and a half in the month I've been here. lOTS of good stuff here.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

welcome Jilles, from Spokane! :)

Jilles - Hi. I'm new here too. I sure don't have a good alternative for you for getting rid of the ivy. I believe you can do it though by early every spring pulling it up mercilessly. You will eventually get the best of it. It took me three years to (almost) rid the entire length of my yard of non-blooming invasive day lilies from the yard next door. I do see one here and there again now. But it was well worth the initial work. Hang in there!

All you Iowans! There's somethin' special about sharing experiences with someone in the same zone. And Brugie - I see you everywhere. Your name has me curious so I'm gonna look you up. I'm very new to all but veggies and "herbs". I learn something new from everyone! Thanks.

Welcome to DG from western Idaho where the wind blows across the Snake River. Have fun looking around and join in the forums anytime. I envy your climate for growing things and I come your way almost every year to see friends in Amity. See ya around the forums.
