Black Elephant Ear looking not so good...

Ladson, SC(Zone 8b)

Someone please save my EE! I have always wanted a black one and a few weeks back I found some on sale at Home Depot. I repotted it in a container so I could move it around when I needed to. I was afraid to put it in the ground. Anyway, it's not doing so good. The leaves seem to be slowly rolling under around the edges...and they are a bit droopy. Any idea what is causing this? I really want to save it. Are they more sensitive than the green EE's? I completely uprooted a whole bunch of those this weekend and replanted them in a better location and they are thriving. Zero signs of shock. What's the deal with this black one??

Thanks in advance, Angie

Hi Angie,

I got that black EE from Home Depot too. Was maybe a month ago now. I planted mine in the ground. Then the leaves proceeded to curl under and go brownish. I assumed it was shocky.

I just kept watering it and today, it's fine, no "cauliflower" ears at all.

Water every day say for 2 weeks til it gets accustomed to its new home.

Even those green EE that keeping popping up in stolen dirt will go into transplant shock at times.

Good Luck

Yes, watering is THE main reason that EE are thriving. Until they have 'found' their own source, you need to give it a hand.

Okay, Thanks a bunch Molly. I was hoping that was the case.
You have made my day.
