Doing different stuff this year ....

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

AH-Ha!
..........Finally, My Malanga sprouted. Better late than never =)
This is my first of these, I bet at the end of summer I will have a big tangled mess cause I planted a lot of BIG stuff, Sea Kale, Malanga, Castor beans, 6 different Canna, about a dozen Hostas and Acanthus Mollis. I even incorporated Visually interesting shrubs here and there . Should be a lot of fun.
Sadly .. no 'naners yet *sighs* , never heard back from the party that was going to send some =((

There are so many brugs , they are planted in the ground for now. I'll worry about the rest in the fall .

I wish all of you a wonderful Summer,

Sounds nice Scooter....also sounds a lot like the new tropical area I started this year.
Red castor, 5 kinds of canna, malanga, blk EE, rhubarb for added color, two bananas, blk bamboo, a couple datura double purple, and one white brug.

Wow -wee ! Sounds really nice Marc . Wish I could see it when it grows up .
.............Dh said no to the Black Bamboo I was going to order. He thinks its too ugly and too pricey. Kill-joy =(
Ol poop !

...............Did you get the 2004 Spring edition of Singing Springs Nursery Catalog ? Be sure you do , the cover photo is things dreams are made of. The cat. is superb in the way they present thier plant photos in groups to give you ideas. ................Even on the text pages, they suggest companion plantings.
It may be small but it is my fav.

You all had better post those photographs of your gardens right here where we can all see them. New to the forum, but have the summer heat if no humidity to do some of these plants. Did Cannas for a while but the grasshoppers here showed up and chowed down just at bloom time each year, so I gave up. Have to dig and re-plant and that's too much just for a grasshopper dinner.

Sorry to hear that Bloom.....with me it's hostas and slugs. I have managed to keep most away wiht my organic methods, but still I will never have the gorgeous full size clumps I see in everyone elses gardens :-(
I promise to post pic as soon as there is something to look at.

So sorry to hear that bloom =(
................ How in the world can you deal with hoppers?
BTW, Welcome to DG =))

Marc,
............... Last year I used sharp sand/bone meal for the lil slimeys and it worked pretty good. This year I will also use chicken grit from the feed store. Its made made out of crushed Oyster shells.

Cool....I'm using coffee grounds, egg shell, and crushed oyster shell. I need to stop by the Pet store and get some Diatom powder (diatoms are razor sharp microscopic particles of things like plankton, shellfish larva, and such) Feels like talcum powder to you and me but cuts the living &^$& out of the slugs. :-)

I heard that Iron Phosphate pellets work real well but I have not found any around here yet. Supposedly only need to apply them once a year =))
