Anyone had any luck growing one?
I am very excited about this find and I don't wanna mess it up.
I checked out all the websites on growing them, I would like to hear from someone first hand. It looks like a Mandevilla on steriods... I can't wait to see it bloom!
Beaumontia grandiflora (aka Easter Lilly Vine)
Lisa,
I got one in a trade about 3 years ago. It has almost taken over my the back of my GH. When I receive the rooted cutting it was like a small stick. The truck is now at least a 2 inches around, still no blooms. I also got one from Calalily's Co-op I think last summer, this one is still very small. Keep both outside last year, don't know if I will be able to get the large one out of GH this year!! I really haven't done anything special to either.
Hope this helps.

I also got one from Cala's co op, it didn't bloom last year I dug it up and keep in the the house all winter and have it back out and it is growing so hope to get blooms this yr.
Bonnie, lol
If anyone ever has an extra one, would love to trade for it,has been on my wish list for a long time.
I have a huge one in the corner of my garden, next to the fence. I'm hoping it will bloom this year. Don't they bloom in winter time?
Tropicman, I have a little cutting rooted, whatcha got to trade?
Plumerias, bananas, mangos, passiflorias, birds of paradise, lillies, irises, epipies, what you looking for?
Oh my, I should have known with a name like Tropicman you'd have everything! I don't have any eppies....those are cacti aren't they?
Well close succulents, you can grow in hanging baskets or pots, have a pink padre rooted.
Suz, how do you take cuttings? I'd love to get some going. (can you believe I only paid 7.00! for the one above!)
Tropicman, the pink Padre sounds pretty. I can plant them in the ground here.
Lisa, I take semi-ripe cuttings, but they take forever and not all take root. I used potting soil as the medium.
Ummm...pretty please can lil old me get a cutting of this too? I gladly will trade something...please let me know.
Thanks Lottie
Wow... I love that & I think I must have one.
Tropicman, I'm so glad that you are trading with Calalily because I know you've wanted this one for a long time. Mine is about eight inches tall and just plain refuses to grow. I think it has been the same size for over a year now. I'll be sending you your Passifloras soon. They are all looking great in their new containers. I figure that they will have strong healthy roots in about a month, but I can send them sooner if you are in a hurry for them.
Lisa, yours look gorgeous and healthy, and for $7.00, you got yourself a bargain!
Cala, Tropicman and I have traded several times over the past couple of years, and he is a wonderful, generous trader. He sent me several different Epiphyllum cuttings last year when I wanted some, and they all rooted and are now putting on growth. I have them growing in hanging baskets.
I like the leaves on this one,I could grow it for just that,Wowser Lisa, that is a good price for that size, you done good!
Clare, are you the one I have the Citronella rooted for? I am so terrible at remembering stuff, but I'm putting his plant in a box tonight so I don't forget and can do yours too(while it's on my mind)
Clare, anytime your ready to send them will be fine with me,I'm glad I didn't already have them,we had large hail lastnite and again tonite,my caltalpa tree just started blooming and the hail has the leaves looking like stainers!!!
Root talk about the gorgeous leaves this is supposed to be one of the most fragrant vines around!!!If its a pretty with a great fragrance,I want it!!!!
Hi Cala, no, you must be thinking of someone else!
Hi Don, I'm so sorry about the rough weather. I hope your plants will be all right. I'm the same way with fragrant plants. I think that is why we love the same plants and vines. I'll give you a heads up before I ship your vines.
Notes : Genus of 9 species. Beaumontia is a vigorous, twining climber cultivated for its foliage and attractive, trumpet-shaped, scented flowers. In frost-free regions, train over a pergola or arbor, against a house wall or through a tree. Use as an espalier or groundcover. The foliage is a downy reddish-brown when young, maturing to glossy deep green. Grow in moist, fertile, humus-rich soil. Prune after flowering with care, as it blooms on the ends of the previous season's growth. It does not do well in containers. Propagate from cuttings or firm wood in Summer or layer in Autumn or Spring.

Looked interesting to me until I saw that it blooms on previous season's growth. Would never work in our cold climate without taking over the inside of the house. LOL!
I also found one place that said it blooms summer and winter.
Thanks, Shirley. I have mine in a small container, and perhaps that is why it is not doing well. I think I will plant it in the ground if I can find a spot.
Brugie,I'll let you know when it blooms!LOL!
I love the impossibles!!!
Thanks for all the info, helps me just that much more.
I have the giant white bird of paradise, and they say it won't bloom in a pot either,7 yrs now,its big,and I'm still waiting, come to think about I'm getting much bigger to waiting
for it to bloom!!LOL!
Hope you guys do get some blooms. Looks like a great vine and heavy bloomer once it starts. I read that the fragrance isn't all that strong, but those blooms would make up for that. I know all about that getting bigger stuff. LOL!
I remembered to mail it!! Hee hee, I'm getting better!
I saw 5 gallon ones here last summer. They are beautiful.
I have mine in a huge pot. Some one needs to tell the plant it won't do well potted!! My vine is
at least 15 ft.(probably more) & branching out every which way!! It has been in
the same pot for 3-4 years. Last year I was able to use a dolly to
get it out of the GH, don't think
I'll be able to move it this year,
the plant has wrapped around everything in site over the winter.
Maybe I'll have blooms this year!!
Honeybee
Honeybee, thanks for this information because I just don't have anywhere that I can plant it in the ground. I'm going to keep mine in a container and just repot it. Would you tell me what size container your plant has been happy in? Thanks very much.
