Isabella - A favorite

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Isabella will always be in my garden because for me she blooms constantly. This is a cutting that I took off of a very large one last fall so that I could have a small standard that was not too tall.

I love it Nanny!! I've seen photos of all colors but I do think I like the pink the very best. Your yard looks like it is absolutly filled with brugs and they ALL look so green and healthy and I do not see a single bug bite! I wish I could say the same, and the tough part is that I don't see any bugs, worms or snails, just some small ants, which are called sugar ants here. You think ants might be eating the leafs??

Very pretty. I had to give up my Isabella to make room for more that I had not had before. She is a great bloomer. One of these days I have got to make a decision to settle for a few and let the rest go. It is a lot of work.

I agree, your leaves are so healthy looking. Your Isabella is beautiful!

I made the mistake of putting all my brugs, all of which are pretty small, in a shaded bed to adjust to being outside. The snails and slugs had a field day chewing the leaves. They all look terrible. Yours look pictures out of a garden book.

Thanks for the new Isabella picture! My first brug, Isabella, now has 3 buds on it - the largest is only about 2 inches long now. I am wondering about how long it might take to bloom. We're leaving for a 2 week vacation 2 weeks from today, and I'm afraid that I am going to miss the first blooms :-(. Yesterday we had a windy storm that knocked the pot it's in over, But despite a few more torn leaves (we had a another storm about a week ago), the Isabella is holding on to the buds! I agree with mg - yours looks like a garden book picture!

This one is on my keeper list,I loved it last year!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

gvmac, it's hard to say, but the time frame sounds like you might miss the blooms. It will be close. I hope I'm wrong and they open before you leave. Hope you have a good vacation.

I took big cuttings like that too Frannie, to put in the flower beds.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Ok Frannie you changed my mind. I have one I got as a cutting 2 years ago , I have overwintered it 2 years and it has never y'd. I was going to give it this year to do something , if it doesn't it's a goner.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

My 2 Isabella cuttings from Padre Y'd over the winter and have a handful of inch-long buds each, hurray! Funny, they are in a small pot but don't "complain" like the seedlings do (they keep growing, ya know) so I've never repotted her. I can't wait to see the blooms.

Is there any way to 'help' a brug Y, if it doesn't do so on its own?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It will Y on it's own when it is ready Sherry. You can't force them to Y. Just keep up your fertilizing routine and hope for the best. Whatever you do, don't pinch them back. You could be pinching the Y off and not know it.

Tadaaaa, I went out and guess what I found.......Mine is blooming to. It's in a big pot and the bloom was on the back side under the leaves. I just got a glimps of pink and Oh my there is was. So pretty, your right Frannie one of the keepers..... :o)

I am so happy to see that some of you now have buds and blooms. I bet it performs for Dee and gvmac like it does for me since they are in a close proximity to me. I am so happy that the forums are coming to life with brug and garden pictures.
