Just found this.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I am out working on beds,I had a bunch of little log cuttings last year that were running down the drive, they never got big,and I did not plan on keeping them,as I was pulling them out I found this,I have a feeling this will lead to some hardness tests here.

Wouldn't it be great if we did have one or two that could handle our cold weather? Any idea which brug it is?

I think it is a frosty,I do not have my pictures to look at.

Oh! That would be wonderful!

This is good news Doc! I'm curious, which side of the house was it on? Your weather is normally colder than here...or for longer periods! Right? I may give it a try this year.

This was on the driveway, there is not much room between my house and the next, maybe 20 ft,the houses are facing North South,so they get full noon sun and since both houses are white, they get great reflected light. It was mulched good, and picked up a few inches of leaves over winter,I do have a solid cedar fence around the yard,so the cold winds are reduced.

Now, that's cute, Rooty!! I wish I'd be so lucky!!!

Very cool, Root! My sister had a white one planted in one of her flowerbeds that she was planning to mulch over the winter, but didn't get to it. It had no protection at all over the winter, so she dug it up over a month ago, and had it in a pile of stuff that was destined for the compost pile. She picked it up today, and found little green sprouts on it! It was bareroot, on the ground for over a month, and still lived!

Edited to say that this is a picture of mine taken last summer (it looks just about like that now, too, at least 25 flowers open). Julie's probably looks like Root's right now, just little green nubs on it.

Wow Ronna...did this happen in OK?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Yes, Brinda, she lives in Tulsa, which is usually a little bit colder than Oklahoma City. I live about 20 miles from Tulsa, but still think of it as my hometown.

Isn't that just something Root. Ronna is that the white seedling? It's so pretty. Your yard is lovely as well.

Thanks, y'all! Yes, Kristi, this is your white seedling. If you don't have a piece of it, I HAVE to send you one! It blooms it's head off, laughs at bugs, smells heavenly (it's my favorite one for smell), the blooms last a MONTH in the winter, and now we know that it's hardier than most plants! We've just been calling it Kristi's White, but if you want to give it a real name, we think that it deserves one!

I forgot a older Sommertraum-Tree last fall outside. The trunk has frost damage and the roots have rotted away.

Are you gonna leave any out on purpose this year Rooty, and see how they do? I have a couple in the ground, that I will chop, mulch, mulch, mulch, and see what happens.
