These are our Kildale Woods with the bluebells in flower. Distance shot.
Bluebells in the Kildale Woods
And here is a close-up of the bluebell. These are our native bluebell. They smell heavenly! Our native bluebell is under threat. We have a garden invader called the Spanish bluebell that is wiping them out. The Spanish breeds with them, and the Spanish genes are dominant, and worse than that, the hybrids are fertile.
I don't know how long our native bluebell will survive.
Must be great to be standing down wind of this hillside!
It's sad how so many natives are changing or getting crowded out.
The scent was gorgous Floridian! I wish there was a way to bottle some of these scents. I was in a local park a day or two ago and there was a scent coming from the Horse Chestnut trees.
Some conservation groups are planting bluebells in some woodland areas, trying to restore them.
