Viva Daves Garden - boo Gardenweb - boo

Interlachen, FL

First of all I would like to think Terry for the warm welcome I recieved upon gaining membership yesterday. I got kicked out of gardenweb without so much as the courtesy of an explaination or email or nothing! Guess I talked about plants too much, go figure. I was a member for a whole day. The whole time the other gardenweb members were emailing me saying: Shhh Spike doesn't like that! - Spike this and Spike that. Its annoying. I go to a forum to talk about plants, not be policed in a hitler-esque fashon. Well to make a long story short they have my $15 membership fee of course, which is currently being investigated by paypal. Sure, why would they want me there, they already have my 15 bucks!

Daves Garden appears to be a much more relaxed atmosphere, and allows freedom of speech. C'mon I pay $15 to talk about plants! Gee Whiz. If your thinking about joining gardenweb, don't waste your time or money, the grass is definately greener here!

I was lucky enough to find DG before I heard about GW,I have never been there,I have looked at a Hyperlink or two,in the few years I have known about it,it looked too slow for me,you can get an answer here at DG,sometimes in minutes, not days.
Welcome aboard, put the Gweb place behind you,and roll on.

My GW membership was up for renewal in Feb. and that is about the time I was hearing alot of grumbling about it, so I never did renew. I didn't go there much anyway, so no big loss. Disney must be pretty crowded with all the folks that have been sent there. :>)

LOL Anna,

For those of you that don't know: When you go to post a message at GW, if you are not a member, or have been expelled for not walking a thin red line and keeping a low profile, it sends you to some BS Disney web site. I hope they go out of business, but as long as they have a fool with $15 coming along every ten minutes........

Rootdoctor: You remind me of that guy on the show "Home Improvement" , everytime it shows him hiding behind a fence or something and it never shows his face.

Welcome to Dave's AA
I dabble on the GW forums, but would not consider becoming a paid member. Unfriendly staff (Spike), and uncomfortable poorly laid out web design.
Dave's and Gardeners Corner are my favs.

AA, nice to "see" you here! (And it's nice to know that my kindness resulted in your moseying on over and checking us out!)

I think you'll find a lot of good gardening conversation here - just holler if you need any help navigating. (You've already mastered the PDB, so this should be a snap, but sometimes the switch from html formats to a database-driven site throws folks for a bit of a loop.)

Welcome to Davesgarden AA! It is always nice to have new members, specially Alocasia fans. I love those plants.

Like I said, welcome, I am sure that you will joing being here, and I believe we will have interesting conversations.

Welcome AA, I'm a newly transplant myself. Just like you, I was booted without atleast an explanation of why. My curioisity go the best of me so I asked why. Everyday it seemed the forum I frequented had a new post from a newbie wanting to know where to buy so I thought I'd be helpful and post about a vendor that had great plants and a great reputation. The vendors site had been underconstruction so I happened to find out it was up. THats when I posted. Well, you know who dislikes this person/vendor(among others) with a passion but I really feel the reason I was booted was because of what I posted in an MSN group which he took as bragging. Anyhow, he accused me of making a blatant ad for a friend and bragging about it. It was more like a casual, hi how are you doing I let them know on GW that your website was up...or something like that. I'm not as upset about getting booted as I am hurt a bit because I know that a person went telling him of what I said on the MSN group. I considered everyone there my friend but I guess I was wrong with atleast one person. The good things that I learned from that experience are that I now know who my real friends are and that I finally made the leap to join this great place. The people here are so nice and am kicking myself I didn't join sooner. I guess the only neg. thing I have to say about DG is that I had not joined before because unless I did I was not able to read the replies to the posts. This I felt gave me an idea as to how friendly or unfriendly DG's people were, thats one plus that GW does have. I hope I've made sense, I'm still trying to type with a broken finger and three hungry kids near by.

Sorry for making this so long. Just wanted to let you know you are not the first or last. I personally look forward to your future posts. Your gardening friend,

Gemila

FYI: I got Paypal to bully Gardenweb into refunding my $15 !! HOORAY ! I hope your finger heals. Sometimes I wish my middle finger would get broken, and i'd have to wear a cast on it, preferable in the upright position !

Addict ~ do you have a website with Ear pics?? I'd love to see it. I've only been growing for a few years and am totally smitten.

Gee I have a nephthytis that looks like that ears 1st cousin. Dh thought a herd of birds had attacked the poor plant-until he looked closer. lol

Welcome AA! You will love it here. GW censorship is frightening. I was shocked that if you mention DG or the name Dave's in a post, it gets bounced back. I think some anger management on that site would be a good thing.

Liz, its here: www.alocasiaaddict.com
Root, Nice Mac Albo, they are extremely difficult because the white part of the leaf is more susseptable to sunburn. I completely stopped selling them and reccomend Colocasia Elepaio instead. But the're nice if someone is knowledgeable enough to properly care for them.

Frogsrus, speaking of nephthytis, I just got in Confetti and Pink Splash, the're my new toys. -Thanks.

Interlachen, FL

What happened is I put too many W's in the alocasiaaddict.com - I fixed it.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I like the pink splash. Confetti is pretty readily available here. I am sure we can work something out. My love of the week are my new spiders-fireflash.

Interlachen, FL

Upload a pic of it.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Here are two babies. I like the orange sherbet coloring. It evidently gets more pronounced. I can hardly wait. I got 4 of them at the 99 cent store. You never know what they will have. A friend and I have a steady date for tues at 8 am when they bring in the plants.

FLOWERJUNKIE !!!! You just killed me ! I saw this plant at Walmart last week with just a broad coverage type label on it. Don't even remember what it said but I do remember the voice in my head saying "get it and put a pic on DG and find out what it is ". Sometimes I should listen to my first impulse ... Aw Shoot !!!

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

Hey, I have that, it was called mandarin plant, and I am having a lot of trouble with it, all the leaves are turning brown. Help, someone, anyone?????

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

CHLOROPHYTUM ORCHIDASTRUM aka FIRE FLUSH should be treated as you would any chlorophytum (spider plants). Keep in shade, some humidy, water once a week. Soil should have some peat in it. Take off all the brown leaves give it a 10/10/10 fertilizer and it should be fine.

Interlachen, FL

I had a chance to buy one at Home Depot's garden center, but passed. Like a great philosopher once said: Not my bag baby....... ..

Pretty anyhow.
