Fresh Brug Seedling

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I planted some datura alba seeds about 10 days and they seem to have sprouted overnight and are about an inch tall...are these fast growing?

Also, I read a post recently that said daturas are usually grown as annuals...are datura ALBAS grown this way? I really wanted a white brug that comes back each year.

WELCOME Tracey to Dave's and the brug forum! I know little about Daturas. I kill them!

But you can get a white brug that will come back every year or better yet not even leave! You do know that brugs and daturas are different?

No, I thought datura was a variety of brug. Is it at all in the same family?

Do you think there is a brug that will survive winters in Dallas? I also don't mind keeping them in pots if necessary so they can be moved inside for the winter. What variety do you recommend for white blooms?

Yes, they are both in the Solanaceae family (same as tomatoes).

I think there are varieties that will overwinter in your area. From what I understand though, they will bloom later in the season that those overwintered in a greenhouse. You will probably want to take cuttings in the Fall of your favorites to insure perpetuation in case a favorite plant did not survive the winter. Its also my understanding that the versicolor varieties are not cold hardy at all.

And, welcome to Dave's Garden and the Brugmansia Forum!
