Saw this idea on an old episode of A Gardener's Journal. The gal used an antique floor lamp base and a harvest basket.
I happened to have a cast iron candle stand that had places for 4 little pots around the central large candle holder. It took a header a couple of years ago in a wind storm and has been relegated to the shed ever since. One of the pot arms had broken off.
I removed the large center candle holder and one of the arms that held two little flower pots. Topped it off with a harvest basket bolted through the top of the stand.
Filled with spaghnum moss and potting soil, a fuschia, spider plant and English ivy. So I like it, what ya think?
Broken Candle Stand + Harvest Basket = I like it!
Now that I like. Very creative. What is the white flower in the black pot at the bottom?
Lovely Happenstance. I wish fuschias did not cook here. Sigh.
broots, it looks like the ever popular plectranthus ciliatus of unknown cultivar but I will let Happenstance answer for sure.
Evening......it is actually Plectranthus 'Zulu Wonder' with white flowers. Which brings up another Plec question....just mention the P word and there are always questions. I remeber reading somewhere that there are lav-blue forms and white forms both said to be 'Zulu Wonder'. I have 3 different 'Zulu Wonders', all with the same foliage, but this is the first to bloom.
The plant in the image above has been grown in almost full day shade, while others I have are in full sun and dappled sun. Will be interesting to see how they flower. This is a very robust grower, continued to grow through the winter, while some of the other Plecs I had seem to have gone by the wayside.
Mine was called "zulu queen" and has pale (blue as opposed to pinkish) lavender flowers. My white came as a "creeping charlie", no known cultivar that we can find. If you end up with a blue flowered one, I will beat a path to your door. Robust is not the word for th ciliatus varieties. I wouldn't dare put it in the ground. They would take over my yard just like they took over New Zealand lol.
