Hi, I'm doing some 3 ft. long low containers on a terrace in NYC- it's a north facing garden- only gets a few hours of sun a day and it's very windy (25th floor). I just bought some dwarf mondo grass (see image) for the containers and I want to plant some flowers in between for color. Does anyone have any ideas of what would be good? It's going to have to be a shade loving, low-growing type of flower. Thanks for any suggestions!
what to plant
It's not really a flower but have you thought of coleus. You can get some really different colors. I planted them in a flower box on my patio last summer.
amym,
Try looking at this site for ideas on what to plant on your terrace to attract butterflies. I think it will be helpful---to you AND the butterflies! Good luck!!! ~Sierrawoman

Moss Rose is a good container plant. It keeps on blooming and self seeds to come back next year :)
